10th Birthday Challenge

This section is where you can post topics related to Challenges from other websites, such as Formula-BOINC, SETI-Germany and BOINCstats, as well as project challenges such as from WCG, PrimeGrid et al.

As a Team, we really want to engage as many team members with these challenges, as this gives us a great way of attracting more members to our Team...plus we get to show our strengths as a Team by (hopefully) doing well in each one.

PS: I have moved lots of topics into this section where they are relevant...as you can see, we've always been happy to take part in Challenges...and long may that continue ;-)

10th Birthday Challenge

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all,

Just a quick message to let you know about the World Community Grid "Team Challenge" that will run during June 2014, in celebration of UK BOINC Teams's 10th Birthday.

We have amassed a huge number of credits on many projects, but WCG seems to have fallen behind, having only amassed less that 0.6% of our entire total.

Given the positive outcomes that could come from our combined computing power for these research projects, it would be nice to dedicate a month of our collective crunching "power" to WCG

So, if you have some spare crunching capability during June, please can you allocate some (or all) of it towards any of the sub-projects on WCG.

(PS You don't have to "join" anything - as it's the team that has created this challenge and as a member of the team you are automatically "entered" - just allow your BOINC client to accept WCG work. If you haven't got WCG in your project list, just go to Boinc Manager and select "Tools > Add project....>", select the "Add project" button and then select WCG from the drop down list).

Many thanks,
Tim

I confess complete ignorance of the current WCG offerings, its been a looooong while since I crunched there...

As I understand it, currently there are no GPU applications at WCG, and at present all apps run on a CPU.

I don't currently use the CPU for Crunching dedicated CPU WUs, current efforts are both machines are on Solo_Collatz GPU WUs, so I can chuck a few cores at this. What would be generally considered the best ones to run on CPU at WGC in terms of contribution to a Team Competition effort ?

ie ... Whats the  "Best Bang for da Buck" at WCG on CPU ... :)

Perfect ..... may thanks Rick ...

I like their (what is to me) "new" Interface - IBM did a good job with that.

The only WCG project that used GPU's was the "Help Conquer Cancer" which has now been completed, sadly.

Hopefully another project will use GPU's....but it might not happen yet.

I have to say that I'm not sure how best to "rate" each of the projects, in terms of credits, as they give you "WCG credits", which are then converted to BOINC credits.....and these are all then grouped in "WCG" by the stats sites...it's only by looking at your own stats on WCH website that you can see how many credits you got per hour of crunching....

I'm just doing Mapping Cancer Markers and FightAids@home - the Clean Energy project is a bit too intense for me and my PC's.

I'll PM you a "cut & paste" of recent stats and you can see which works best for you.

regards
Tim

Hi David

Have you registered previously?

If not, then you need to go to this page:

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/r ... egister.do

I've looked through the list of UBT members who've joined WCG and I can't find a "david", though there is a "david_h"...

If you forgot your username, you can get a reminder here:

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/l ... assword.do

If you have joined previously and maybe need a password reminder, then try here:

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/l ... berName.do

Also, check your browser "password" settings...as it could be trying to use an incorrect username or password.....and the browser get's confused.
