SETI@HOME GAUNTLET 2012

This section is where you can post topics related to Challenges from other websites, such as Formula-BOINC, SETI-Germany and BOINCstats, as well as project challenges such as from WCG, PrimeGrid et al.

As a Team, we really want to engage as many team members with these challenges, as this gives us a great way of attracting more members to our Team...plus we get to show our strengths as a Team by (hopefully) doing well in each one.

PS: I have moved lots of topics into this section where they are relevant...as you can see, we've always been happy to take part in Challenges...and long may that continue ;-)

Post by SEARCHER »

:)  Good Morning and Hello UK BOINC Team,

here a new Information from User Eesger vom Team SETI. Netherlands :

Hello all,

First of all we (the S@NL) team are almost ready for the Gauntlet. It's been a hell of a job, and the Gauntlet hasn't even started yet

Everything didn't go at the speed we all would like, but (as usual) the problem is that we also have a(nother) life with (other) responsibilities

Now the statscode and the frontend seem to be ready! Look here : http://www.seti.nl/boinc_team.php?actio ... language=1

The final date will be set when a small test Gauntlet which will start with the update of today and will end on april second goes as we are hoping....

Therefore today you can still join the TEST Gauntlet. Then there will not be made any (team)changes until the TEST Gauntlet has ended (2 April 2012). Then we the team will evaluate if everything is ready and set a date for the REAL Gauntlet if everything went as hoped.

In the mean time other teams and members are offcource welcome!!

And here a new Posting from User XP_Freak vom Team SETI.Netherlands :

The test-Gauntlet is running, and all is looking just fine.

If anyone is "up" for this, then please reply to this thread.

Looking at the Gauntlet forum on their website it seems like we have to register BOINC names and userID's in advance (and on/before 15th April 2012).

The Gauntlet runs from 16th-30th April.

What say you?

Tim

I'm in (if I remember!)

We need a team captain to register and keep a handle on what's going on (not me!). I haven't run SETI for nearly a year so no idea how it runs now. As John is #1 guy at SETI I volunteer him! (though I think he'd disagree most vehemently :-) )

It appears that NVIDIA GPU is utilised and not AMD ATI which will be a pain for those of us using AMD graphics cards :-(

I believe that there is an third party OpenCL application for us AMD GPU users out there somewhere, but I've never used it and don't know too much about it, so if anyone else has some experience with it, then I'd be grateful if they could share a little of that wisdom here (especially if they also use Ubuntu).  :?

  Installer v0.40 64 bit
  Installer v0.40 Readme
  Installer v0.40 Win95/98/ME

Even installs the apps for you, Just match the installer to your machine and then just click on the boxes for you ati cards !

Thanks that's a great help. Ran first time without problems. Seems to run cooler than other GPU apps as well.

Well, to be exact: you are with 5.
Timbo is your teamcaptain.

Not much activity over here.
If I post some more, than I surely become one of the top-spammers.

Well, out of four GPUs, it seems that I can only crunch Seti on my HD5970 (and then only on one of the two cores if I want to avoid the dreaded BSOD :( ). Still, at least I'm contributing a few credits to the cause (not that that's going to do too much to help get UBT out of the rather distant last place we currently seem to be stuck in).  :?

Gave up on Astropulse as soon as I realized how long they take! Hopefully they should give good returns though.

Unless you want to see how poor we're doing I'd give this link a miss! http://www.seti.nl/boinc_team.php?actio ... language=1

Sadly the results from my HD5970 aren't validating, so I'm down to just crunching on my CPUs at the moment. :sad1:

I'll have another play with those apps at the weekend, and maybe (with a little luck) I'll be able to get something out of at least one of my GPUs.   :?
