People losing credits?

Post by Jeffers »

While browsing that statistics page I noticed that a few people seem to be losing points....https://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/user/list/0/0/214/0

So what's going on?

I blame the EU :D - https://boincstats.com/en/forum/8/12112

I think you'll find they're members who don't crunch any more.

With the GDPR coming in to effect on some projects (eventually all of them) members have to actively log in to the individual project and allow their data to be used (a couple of projects do it the other way round and you have to opt out)

Inactive crunchers obviously don't change their settings and their data gets removed from the stats sites causing their totals to drop.

Hi Jeff

If active members update their preferences, on the specific project websites, then they will get their credits back (on the stats websites).

It's only really the inactives where the credits may not get returned, esp, as in CPDN, where they have actually deleted the inactive accounts.

AFAIK, the team totals are not affected by this, so while individual credits might be reduced (or even vanish entirely), the team total will still include those credits that were earned for the team, while the member was active.

Hi Tim,

Not necessarily, from Boincstats -
If you do not do so your data will be removed from the export and in accordance with the GDPR all your data from these projects will be removed from BOINCstats as well. This data can’t be recovered!

HI Mark

Maybe you are the wrong person to ask (Willy might be better?) but what happens if you update your project preferences to allow your data to be exported, AFTER some data excluding your stats has already been exported?

Surely the later export stats would include your updated stats and hence will then be shown on BOINCstats? (Just as a new members stats would become a new entry into the relevant user, team and country stats).

Of course, initially you might lose your daily, weekly and monthly stats data, but that would eventually be re-instated some time later, once the website had built up a history of your stats.

Hi Tim,

You're right, Willy might be a better bet :)

I don't know what would happen under those circumstances. Same as you, I assume your history would have vanished off Boincstats and you would then reappear as a new user with a very healthy one day contribution?
