As you may or may not know, the 24th World Scout Jamboree is being held in West Virginia, USA in July – August 2019. This is the biggest scouting event of the calendar, and this WSJ is set to be the biggest ever, with nearly 45,000 participants attending! The WSJ is a chance for scouts around the world to meet each other in a virtually 100% scouting environment and mingle + do various activities over a ten day period, as well as enhancing the individual participants’ skills and the scouting movement as a whole.
Now, I am lucky enough to have been selected as a participant for this amazing event! I applied for the 2015 WSJ in Japan, but was unsuccessful, so applied again for this one and secured a place. There will be a lot of work going into this event over the next year and a half, not only from the organisers’ side but from the scouts’ side too – each UK participant needs to raise nearly £4,000 for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. This is a larger amount than some countries, due to the fact that a proportion of the funds that the UK scouts gather will be distributed to nations who either face troubles with fundraising (e.g. Saudi Arabia – it is a grey area with the law) and countries and regions who simply would struggle to afford this payment.
Why I am writing this is not only to document my story and to spread the news of this event, but I am also asking for help – I need as many fundraising ideas as possible (that are also viable) to carry out over the next 14/15 months, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
If you would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to message me, or email my group’s email address – email@example.com . Also, if you would like to actually donate to me for this, that would be greatly appreciated! I accept donations in whatever form you’d like to donate in, but my main ones are listed below (again, message me if you require a different method):
Thank you so much if you do donate! Please set the label on any transaction to say something along the lines of ‘WSJ 2019 Donation’ (or something to that effect) so I know where the funds are destined for.
Thanks so much for your help!
