Currently in Spain, lost case, stolen phone, stolen tablet but at least I got this target I was aiming for months ago! So not all bad! 😀

HI Mike

Sorry to hear that - hope it's all insured and you've had a chance to cancel anything important (like phone contract etc).

I don't suppose you set up any 'tracking apps' on either phone or tablet...? At least they can be remotely locked and/or tracked?

Hope you have an (otherwise) nice time in Spain.

regards
Tim

Hi
Case turned up this morning, phone has been blacklisted. Trying to find a way to track tablet but have limited info as that info is at home (hopefully). Got serial number from ee so that's a start. Watching thunderstorm now!
Off topic but how hum 😁

Oh not as simple as I first thought then.. It was just an idea, nothing that important really.

Had a quick go and created an overall table based on IOC rules (billions first, then 500 millions etc - similar to what Chris suggested)

Code: Select all

			1000	500	250	100	10	Millions
Woodles 2	3	3	4	17	35
Hogey 2	2	2	2	2	7
UBT - JohnR 1	2	2	5	9	13
ncoded.com 1	2	2	2	7	13
Temujin 1	1	5	5	10	30
UBT - Timbo 1	1	2	3	6	24
Joshrandom 1	1	2	3	5	7
Keith 1	1	2	2	4	15
UBT - Mikeejones	1	1	1	1	6	12
Tackleway 1	1	1	1	3	6
Richard Whitehurst	1	1	1	1	3	3
Keith 1	1	1	1	2	4
GPUGRID Role account	1	1	1	1	1	1
Zydor 0	2	3	6	7	10
Steven Pinder 0	2	2	2	3	7
UBT-McTooth 0	1	2	4	8	11
Eric 0	1	2	3	4	5
Jeff Bulmer 0	1	2	2	4	7
Nicksphone 0	1	1	2	4	16
ukjohnd 0	1	1	1	4	6
John Sheridan 0	1	1	1	2	3
meddy2065 0	1	1	1	1	2
UBT - mickyb69 0	0	1	2	6	11
TroubledBunny 0	0	1	2	2	3
david 0	0	1	1	3	5
Homefarm 0	0	1	1	2	4
SIN-NOMBRE 0	0	1	1	2	3
Fred Bayliss 0	0	1	1	1	2
GoodFodder 0	0	1	1	1	1
Bambi_72 0	0	0	2	2	3
So a sort of league table.

Personally I'm not sure that GoodFodder with one project scoring more than 250 million (GPUGrid) should be better placed than say Traviss who has 23 projects over the one million mark but doesn't even make the list.

Still, I suppose it does give an idea of what a member needs to improve to move up a position (no point in pushing for that 500 million project if a new, 1,000,000 project will suffice)

I'm open to suggestions for a better overall scoring method.

Its actually quite a difficult problem not only for the frequency issue you mentioned of the lower scored number of projects over the higher ones, but also if you compare GPU projects to CPU based one. Should 100 million on Collatz be equally weighted to say 100 million on WorldCommunityGrid, when the former can be done in hours/days/weeks yet the latter would/could take many years?

Also, those that got a billion off BU and now have a billion from Collatz, are pretty much are impossible to catch now as getting a billion from GPUGrid, PrimeGrid or Moo! is no mean feat in terms of money/time/hardware.

Just out of interest, given the point above, If someone gets 10 billion on Collatz, will a new group be added?

However saying all this, personally I like this league table as it shows a quick comparison between crunchers and projects, without getting to bogged down in weightings/frequencies/fairness/etc.

One thing that maybe should be looked at is multiple accounts. Imagine someone create a few accounts and they all get connected, and then the person did a billion from Collatz on each account?

Personally I would be happy if the league only took one account for stats; and I am guessing that perhaps I would have most to lose in terms of this new rule change, however it does seem the right thing to do?

Hi Chris,

True and I don't know what the solution is.

Split into GPU and CPU projects? ....But some projects have/had both and there's no telling what the split is/was.

Eliminate retired projects? ... Penalises those that were more active in the past and not so much now. Although I would be prepared to eliminate BU as that was a bit of an outlier and only supported by 35 team members who scored lots of points and skew the results)

The other option is going back to separate leagues for each division. In that case, Traviss is third in the individual millions league and gets a mention for his persistence.

There are five team members already with more than 10 billion, three with more than 100 billion and one with more than 250 and 500 billion. All in BU of course. All modesty aside, unless you're going to be crunching full time for UBT then I'm the only one likely to get to 10 billion in Collatz before 2030, I don't see any point in creating higher ranked groups just yet. Not much point in having a group with just one member in it for the next ten years!

Re. Multiple accounts. If any one has multiple accounts and wants them to be combined, let me know and I'll add the code to treat them as one account. After all, they've done the work regardless of what they were called at the time. I get the data from Boincstats and at present, each account on there is treated as a separate user (hence "Keith" being in there twice ... although he is in fact two different people in this case) Your accounts haven't been combined in the tables above, I'll edit the posts when I get the chance.

At the end of the day, this is for members information only and I'm open to suggestions about how/what they want reporting if anything.

I think I might do individual top ten tables for each division and a top fifty combined as above. Members can then compete in the individual leagues for diversity or the overall one for perseverance. If Traviss wants to go up a place then he only needs one more project at one million, much easier than getting two existing projects to 100 million.

Regarding multiple accounts, there's a "Jeffers" in the points table which is a former account of mine. I've tried unsuccessfully a couple of times to get it combined with my current main account under "Jeff Bulmer" without success. To be honest, the points in there aren't particularly significant, just a little over a million. Although, in my current position, that would be enough to push me past the Billion in total!

Hi Jeff,

I'll combine your two accounts then when I update the tables on Monday.

Hi Mark,

I'm not sure either; i think the solution(s) you mentioned would probably be the best way to go. I think whichever route you take, there will be pro's and con's.

Personally I am happy with the existing table as it shows me pretty much what I was interested in seeing.

Thanks for that Chris, seems to be exactly what I was doing with the Boincstats data so I'm out of a job now :D

Personally I think your better served coming up with logic for the end table to show rankings, rather than data collection which this site has already done for you.
