Millionaires League

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all,

There's another thread on here about the number of Millionaires we have - close-ish to 900 at the time of writing this.

But then I thought: How many members are multi-milionaires, due to the number of projects where they've earned over 1,000,000 credits on each one?

The link shows each member with over 1,000,000 credits on each project, but if one summarised it, then (as of today) the following league table shows members respective totals:

Position - Member name - Total
1 Temujin - 31 projects with at least 1m on each
2 Traviss - 19

=3 Keith Nova 1 - 13
=3 UBT - John R - 13
=3 UBT - Timbo - 13
=3 Woodles - 13

=7 UBT-McTooth - 11
=7 UBT-mickyb69 - 11
=7 UBT-Timby - 11

10 Zydor - 10

=11 ChrisF - 8
=11 DazzaUK - 8
=11 Greenways Court - 8
=11 LupusUK - 8
=11 rwremote - 8
=11 UBT - Mikeejones - 8

=17 ANCHULA-MARK - 7
=17 joshrandom - 7
=17 Neil - 7
=17 stuey77 - 7
=17 UBT - NaRyan - 7

(The projects shown are those on the UBT stats website here ( http://ubtstats.co.uk/ubt/millions2.php?cs=2&sz=2 ), which as we know is a bit out of date as it doesn't include a number of newer projects, such as: Citizen Grid, DENIS, FIND, GoofyxGrid, SRBase, Universe, etc - so if any issues, then please let me know).

So a hearty "congratulations" to Temujin and let's see who can improve on their current standing soonest :)

Hi Tim,

Just had a quick look at the statistics and I don't know who was first (I suspect Traviss as they've had the most improvement) but there's been four changes:

Traviss have increased their score to 22 projects of at least 1 million credits, cementing their second place, I've added two more projects to effectively move you, Keith and John R into equal fourth (sorry :D ), Zydor has somehow moved up one to be equal 7th despite not having crunched for quite a while :o :? and Greenways Court has moved clear of the other previously equal eleventh placers to relegate them to now equal twelfth place.

Hi Mark

Nice work (again :) )

I suspect Zydor increased his placing as, when I first compiled the list, CPDN was having stats issues, so now they've sorted themselves out, and Zydor's CPDN credit must now be taken into account :)

This also means that other members CPDN credit totals could also change their overall placing...and that includes Traviss and Greenways Court too !

Maybe I need to update the listing - but I'll leave it until the end of the 2nd quarter (abt 30th June) to do that :)

Hi Nick

Yup - you got me !!

Slacking too much I'm afraid...mainly due to having been to a couple of festivals this year (instead of a "proper" holiday) plus had to get some accounts sorted out.

But I will sort out a new listing soon...promise !!

regards
Tim

(As before, I'm basing this on the ubtstats website http://ubtstats.co.uk/ubt/millions2.php?cs=2&sz=2 - even though it's not up to date and doesn't include a few of the newer projects...so, if you've earned more than a million on an un-listed project, please let me know !! )

Congratulations on making the top ten, as I know it, I've included your other alias in your total.

This should really be done by scanning through an up to date stats site and checking on user IDs rather than names as some projects are missed off Temujins site (according to Boincstats I have 25 projects with a million or more credits) and there is a suspiciously large number of Dave/David/Davie, Steve/Steven/Stephen and Will/William/Bill etc who may be the same person.

That's for later though when I have more time.

Thank you Mark.

Would would be interesting if this were expanded (given note below):

10 Million
100 Million
1 Billion

I am undecided over trying to get access and manipulate the project stats in code.

Indeed - this is one area where if we had access to updating the ubtstats website, we could include all the new projects and have a far more representative "table" of millionaires.

I believe that each project "data dump" contains both username and CPID, such that it would then be easy to discern between all the members who used the same username (ie Dave/David/Davie etc).

So, it's possible a new millionaires listing could be "created" but we need first to download all the available data dumps :-(, and then query every record to pull out our Teams data and to then generate a "per project" list of members who have earned more than a million credits and to display that. Not easy, if we are starting from scratch and with reference to the "PHP coding" thread.

Hi Tim,

You're welcome.

So far as project millionaires was concerned, I was thinking more of hammering Boincstats and just downloading the current UBT team page for each project (about 50k each) then scanning each one to get the millionaires and collecting them together since Boincstats already gives each user a separate ID number based on their CPID not their username.

You can't actually get at the CPID numbers very easily and the ID numbers don't tie up with them but the Boincstats issued numbers are consistent across their website which makes collecting individual members stats easy enough.

I'm busy for the next couple of nights but I'll see what I can knock up before the weekend.

Obviously this is a very limited set of data and doesn't help with the stats collecting and viewing on the other thread and would only produce a text document at the end of the day.

Mark

HI Mark
You can't actually get at the CPID numbers very easily
But they are available in the user.gz file. For SETI, this is approx 500 Mb once uncompressed.

This is in the form:

Code: Select all

<user>
 <id>2</id>
 <name>Jacor & Pigalak</name>
 <country>Poland</country>
 <create_time>1036520979</create_time>
 <total_credit>139.162977</total_credit>
 <expavg_credit>0.000000</expavg_credit>
 <expavg_time>1150444415.024580</expavg_time>
 <cpid>95f1440f3779a9353c607d76e358740e</cpid>
</user>
So, it's then a question of extracting the relevant data into a table and then adding in the info from other projects, which would be smaller. For one project, this is sort of easy to do.

But for all the active projects, plus those where the data is still available, I grant you that this would be quite tricky to do, esp if this is being done regularly....every few hours say.

I wonder if Willy at BOINCStats, would be willing to allow us access to his data dump, of UBT specific data - that would save a lot of hassle?

Hi Tim,

I was looking at a purely quick and dirty millionaires calculation rather than a full stats website.

The users CPID isn't present in the Boincstats data tables but they're specific to UBT and only ~50k in size.

I've had a quick look and UBT has 706 members that have over one million credits and could conceivably be millionaires. Downloading the data for all of them would only be ~35Mb in total and shouldn't upset Willy if he even notices. Even less if it's limited to the team members that are likely to be in the top twenty (no point checking members that have less 5 million total credits if there's already twenty with more than 5 million point projects for example)

Then it's just a case of incrementing a counter for each project that the team member has over a million points on, saving the total then moving onto the next member.

I'm NOT offering to do the full stats website thing, that's way beyond my capabilities but I can knock up a VB script to get the millionaires in a couple of evenings.

Finally had a bit of free time to automate this (mainly due to work winding down in anticipation of some sort of forthcoming holiday? :?)
Top twenty according to Boincstats which includes new and retired projects:

=1 Temujin 30
=1 Woodles 30

3 Traviss 23

=4 Nicksphone 16
=4 UBT - Timbo 16
=4 ncoded.com 16

7 Keith 15

8 UBT - JohnR 13

=9 UBT-Timby 11
=9 LupusUK 11
=9 UBT - mickyb69 11
=9 UBT-McTooth 11

13 Zydor 10

=14 JonS 9
=14 Greenways Court 9
=14 GalaxyIce 9

=17 Alan Jordan 8
=17 Darren 8
=17 UBT - Rick Horn 8
=17 UBT - Mikeejones 8

I've made a couple of assumptions on this. ChrisCambridge and ncoded are the same person and Darren and DazzaUk are the same person.

Doesn't show any increases over the last table as that was based on a completely different set of data.

Mark

(Slipped up a little with 14/15th place - corrected)

Hi Mark

Excellent work !!

The one issue with Temujins/Johns website is that it isn't up to date and hence some newer projects are not included and so any millionaire members (of these newer projects) are not taken into account on the website "Millionaires" page.

Your automated stats are therefore much more accurate and give better recognition to those members who have reached such heights !

Update: I've checked and I think Darren/Dazza/DazzaUK are one and the same, at least as far as ubtstats are concerned:

Hi

Well that's disappointing! Only listed twice in across both lists - must try harder!

Do you think if I swapped over to Collatz I might get a 100 million eventually? What could tempt me to do that?

Hi Mark

The two "Keiths" are indeed different - one is aka "hgblade" and the second is aka "Mudbankkeith".

So, your table is correct as it stands.

Hi

After several months of on/off trying I've now got another into the 10 million list (Milkyway) - woo hoo! Now getting into the 100 million list is gonna be a bit tricky - the closest is Collatz at 58 million but that runs a bit hot in the current ambient temperature, next is Moo! at 35.5 million which will take a while but runs cooler... ho hum...

I think adding two extra groups, one at 250 million and one at 500 million would be pretty useful, as its a pretty long/impossible jump from 100 million to 1 billion! I think that would make it far more exclusive, as I guess would if retired projects were removed

OK, updated with the new groups, retired projects still included as the work was put in by the user to get the credits originally.

Lists extended to include everyone at the final level (that reached by the 30th team member)

For those curious, the order of members with an equal number of values is the reverse of their total credits. Not intentional, that's just the way it worked out. I may re-write the code to reverse the order as that seems fairer.

Sorry to hear that Mike, must be soo frustrating.

Good work Mark.. Yeah I guess that makes sense about retired projects.

Now we just need some total indicator so we can quickly see how well one is doing..

Perhaps:

1 point for 1 million,
10 points for 10 million
100 points for 100 million
250 points for 250 million
500 points for 500 million
1000 points for 1 billion

Obviously 1 point per million.

Using you and Temujin as an example:

Woodles: 35+170+400+750+1500+2000
4,855 points

Temujin: 30+100+500+2500+500+1000
4,630 points

I guess as you have the credit extraction automated, you could spin this out pretty easily to generate a "UBT Millionaires League (summation/totals) Table"?

Hi Chris,

That wouldn't be a problem but it would be very biased towards the Billionaires.

At present, the totals are for each project with the threshold points or more. Using your numbers, a project with more than 1 million but less than ten million would get a single point but a project with more than a billion would get
1000 (for being over a billion)
+ 500 (for being over 500 million)
+ 250 (for being over 250 million)
+ 100 (for being over 100 million)
+ 10 (for being over 10 million)
+ 1 (for being over 1 million)
A total of 1,861 points.

At the other end of the range, a single project with 10,000,001 credits would score more than ten projects with 9,999,999 credits (11 points to 10)

Personally, I think that getting ten projects over the one million mark is a harder achievement than getting one project to over ten million. Diversity over persistence :) Besides, some projects are easy to get over one million (Collatz - GPU, 80+ credits a second, 3.5 hours for a million) others are a lot more difficult (CAS - CPU, 0.018 credits a second, 1.75 YEARS for a million) This is similar to the age old problem of comparing projects on the Boinc credit system, one projects credit isn't the same as another projects credit.

I might see about eliminating projects from all but their highest group or maybe some sort of league table sorted by number of billions, then 500 millions, then 250 millions etc.

HI Mike

Sorry to hear that - hope it's all insured and you've had a chance to cancel anything important (like phone contract etc).

I don't suppose you set up any 'tracking apps' on either phone or tablet...? At least they can be remotely locked and/or tracked?

Hope you have an (otherwise) nice time in Spain.

Hi
Case turned up this morning, phone has been blacklisted. Trying to find a way to track tablet but have limited info as that info is at home (hopefully). Got serial number from ee so that's a start. Watching thunderstorm now!

Had a quick go and created an overall table based on IOC rules (billions first, then 500 millions etc - similar to what Chris suggested)

Code: Select all

			1000	500	250	100	10	Millions
Woodles 2	3	3	4	17	35
Hogey 2	2	2	2	2	7
UBT - JohnR 1	2	2	5	9	13
ncoded.com 1	2	2	2	7	13
Temujin 1	1	5	5	10	30
UBT - Timbo 1	1	2	3	6	24
Joshrandom 1	1	2	3	5	7
Keith 1	1	2	2	4	15
UBT - Mikeejones	1	1	1	1	6	12
Tackleway 1	1	1	1	3	6
Richard Whitehurst	1	1	1	1	3	3
Keith 1	1	1	1	2	4
GPUGRID Role account	1	1	1	1	1	1
Zydor 0	2	3	6	7	10
Steven Pinder 0	2	2	2	3	7
UBT-McTooth 0	1	2	4	8	11
Eric 0	1	2	3	4	5
Jeff Bulmer 0	1	2	2	4	7
Nicksphone 0	1	1	2	4	16
ukjohnd 0	1	1	1	4	6
John Sheridan 0	1	1	1	2	3
meddy2065 0	1	1	1	1	2
UBT - mickyb69 0	0	1	2	6	11
TroubledBunny 0	0	1	2	2	3
david 0	0	1	1	3	5
Homefarm 0	0	1	1	2	4
SIN-NOMBRE 0	0	1	1	2	3
Fred Bayliss 0	0	1	1	1	2
GoodFodder 0	0	1	1	1	1
Bambi_72 0	0	0	2	2	3
So a sort of league table.

Personally I'm not sure that GoodFodder with one project scoring more than 250 million (GPUGrid) should be better placed than say Traviss who has 23 projects over the one million mark but doesn't even make the list.

Still, I suppose it does give an idea of what a member needs to improve to move up a position (no point in pushing for that 500 million project if a new, 1,000,000 project will suffice)

I'm open to suggestions for a better overall scoring method.

Its actually quite a difficult problem not only for the frequency issue you mentioned of the lower scored number of projects over the higher ones, but also if you compare GPU projects to CPU based one. Should 100 million on Collatz be equally weighted to say 100 million on WorldCommunityGrid, when the former can be done in hours/days/weeks yet the latter would/could take many years?

Also, those that got a billion off BU and now have a billion from Collatz, are pretty much are impossible to catch now as getting a billion from GPUGrid, PrimeGrid or Moo! is no mean feat in terms of money/time/hardware.

Just out of interest, given the point above, If someone gets 10 billion on Collatz, will a new group be added?

However saying all this, personally I like this league table as it shows a quick comparison between crunchers and projects, without getting to bogged down in weightings/frequencies/fairness/etc.

One thing that maybe should be looked at is multiple accounts. Imagine someone create a few accounts and they all get connected, and then the person did a billion from Collatz on each account?

Personally I would be happy if the league only took one account for stats; and I am guessing that perhaps I would have most to lose in terms of this new rule change, however it does seem the right thing to do?

Hi Chris,

True and I don't know what the solution is.

Split into GPU and CPU projects? ....But some projects have/had both and there's no telling what the split is/was.

Eliminate retired projects? ... Penalises those that were more active in the past and not so much now. Although I would be prepared to eliminate BU as that was a bit of an outlier and only supported by 35 team members who scored lots of points and skew the results)

The other option is going back to separate leagues for each division. In that case, Traviss is third in the individual millions league and gets a mention for his persistence.

There are five team members already with more than 10 billion, three with more than 100 billion and one with more than 250 and 500 billion. All in BU of course. All modesty aside, unless you're going to be crunching full time for UBT then I'm the only one likely to get to 10 billion in Collatz before 2030, I don't see any point in creating higher ranked groups just yet. Not much point in having a group with just one member in it for the next ten years!

Re. Multiple accounts. If any one has multiple accounts and wants them to be combined, let me know and I'll add the code to treat them as one account. After all, they've done the work regardless of what they were called at the time. I get the data from Boincstats and at present, each account on there is treated as a separate user (hence "Keith" being in there twice ... although he is in fact two different people in this case) Your accounts haven't been combined in the tables above, I'll edit the posts when I get the chance.

At the end of the day, this is for members information only and I'm open to suggestions about how/what they want reporting if anything.

I think I might do individual top ten tables for each division and a top fifty combined as above. Members can then compete in the individual leagues for diversity or the overall one for perseverance. If Traviss wants to go up a place then he only needs one more project at one million, much easier than getting two existing projects to 100 million.

Regarding multiple accounts, there's a "Jeffers" in the points table which is a former account of mine. I've tried unsuccessfully a couple of times to get it combined with my current main account under "Jeff Bulmer" without success. To be honest, the points in there aren't particularly significant, just a little over a million. Although, in my current position, that would be enough to push me past the Billion in total!

Hi Mark,

I'm not sure either; i think the solution(s) you mentioned would probably be the best way to go. I think whichever route you take, there will be pro's and con's.

Personally I am happy with the existing table as it shows me pretty much what I was interested in seeing.
