Boinc Not Responding

Post by UBT - JohnR »

This is a general warning to all team members.

WCG has turned NASTY when their site is not responding correctly.

If the site is down, or otherwise not able to accept uploads etc. from Boinc Manager, then WCG is locking up Boinc for ages and I'm getting this on all my computers when it happens.  I have just had to pull the network cable to get back into Boinc Manager after a lock up, rebooting the computer is no help.  Last week before I realised the reason for Boinc not responding I restored a backup, loosing 3 days work, or having to abort 2 SAP wu's.

06/11/2006 19:28:32||Suspending network activity - user request

As the computer is locked for about 10 minutes each time then the 1 minute back off is no use.

If this happens to you then disconnection from the network works best for me, or switching off the router.  This happened to me tonight when they were having a routine maintenance.

Great.. the wife is already suspicious of me running BOINC on her computer, and it's set to 100% WCG. If this happens she'll never run it again.

Its only boinc that lock up, not the computer.

Maybe it depends on the client also?

I'm on 5.4.11.  WCG is down now, just try to get a new job on one of your computers to see if the same thing gets your computer.

No don't it will try to get new work and lock up.

She's using 5.7.2. I'll have to check it when I get home.
