Very interesting thread
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/sho ... p?t=113738
The top 3 teams in Rosetta are all slowing down
Xtreme have started in WCG in a big way. Question how long will it take them
to reach No1?

They have been sulking for weeks now have been following more or less since day 1 and it has certainly made me chuckle alot for the last few weeks.

At least WCG have a quorum so the BOINC clients that inflate credit won't do much good to people over there

Just read that thread and this comment about WCG made me laugh
It does have one downside that I can see and that is it's quorum credit system but at least we know that going in.
Just goes to show they have already thought of over inflating credits but luckily the WCG stops this from happening

I have no problem with a client that crunches faster, more work done is better.
However a client that inflates credit is cheating in the worst way. I've been
crunching SIMAP and some people are claiming 30+ credits to my 11 on the
same WU, I use the standard app. If 2 cheaters crunch the same WU they get
the inflated credit.

Look at this Bar Steward - Claimed credits 40+ granted about 9+
http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/ ... erid=11786
Serve him right if the admins deleted credits earned to date as an example.

The BOINC Client in question is the one crunch3r made to work with the new SETI Science app to counter act some of its affects.

Since all the SETI world blew up on him there he took the BOINC client down, but unfortunately  some people have kept it and mirror the download n a few servers.

Crunch3r has stated that his client not to be used as it does inflate credits on all other projects but he can't stop it as others have the download hosted.

Optimised Science apps are good

Optimised BOINC apps & alternatives have the potential to be bad but not all the time

And this particular case falls within that statement.
Used for what they were intended for, they're perfectly acceptable, misuse them and its not acceptable.
And they expected the Rosetta guy to back them Image

This is perhaps the reason SIMAP is moving to a fixed credit system.
If you look at the guys computers in the link above he quite often falls
lucky and gets the claimed credit. SIMAP's credits have gone from 300K a
month ago to 550K see http://boincstats.com/stats/project_graph.php?pr=simap
It might be more WU's crunched or as more poeple claim false credits the effect can snowball as more and more join in.
