Not uploading/downloading work units...

Post by Jemma »

Has anyone been having problems either - uploading, downloading (or both) work credits? I have been trying for over a week now - this is the second time. I originally thought that it was my internet provider (EE  ) but I was at an event yesterday and it still would not upload/download

Hi

Not sure what you mean. BOINCStats has your credits here http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/user/ ... rojectList . However, you seem to be at 1087 in Johns stats with a different name http://www.ubtstats.co.uk/ubt/ajs.php?s ... oject=Seti and no current output. Make sure that the email addys and user names are EXACTLY the same.

There is a SETI account here https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_us ... id=1739983 which appears to be you but hasn't had any contact since Nov 14th.

This is the account! I have been worried that something is wrong at their end. I will try again this evening

Also, there should only one account - I did see that on an old account that I was with Phoenix Rising - which should have been deleted!

Hi Jemma

You have uploaded some results, as can be seen here:

http://www.ubtstats.co.uk/ubt/ubt_graph ... ame=JemmaJ

and looking at the "Your computers" link on your SETI account, you currently have just one SETI@home task that is being crunched.

Looking at the specs on your PC, you have a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz [Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 2], with 4 cores...so in principle, you should be crunching a number of tasks.

However, as it seems that you may have only just come back to BOINC, it might also be that the project needs you to crunch (and return) a few results before it "opens the floodgates" and allows BOINC Manager to download some more.

According to the Einstein and Rosetta project websites, your PC hasn't been in contact with them for a while (but that's not an issue)

So to try and fix these issues, I would suggest:

1) Within BOINC Manager, click on the Projects tab and then click on "SETI@home" and then click on "Update"

2) Within BOINC Manager, click on the "Options" and then "Computing preferences" and make sure that "Computing" tab that "Use at most [ ] % of the CPUs is set to somewhere between 50% and 75% (which should mean you will be using at least 2 or 3 of your 4 cores.

And in the "Other" section, set the "Store at least [ ] days of work" to maybe 2

3) On the SETI@home project website, log into "Your account" and check the "SETI@home Preferences" and see which tasks you have allowed.

(Don't check this last stage yet as Tuesday is "SETI@homes" day-off when they do routine maintenance...so the website won't be available for a few hours.

4) As a final check, go to the Rosetta project on the "Projects" tab and set that to "Allow new tasks" and see if that works correctly. (Again you might need to issue the "Update" command, after allowing new work).

regards
Tim
