The Lattice Project

Post by UBT - Halifax-lad » Wed Mar 22, 2006 6:57 pm

An update on Lattice
Hi David,

Currently our major efforts are on revamping our Grid system to be GT4-compatible and in accumulating other kinds of on-campus resources.  My belief is that we will expand once again to BOINC in due time, but we will need enough work to keep our user base busy when we re-launch, and that will justify the overhead of getting the BOINC project set up again.  Long and short of it, could be a few weeks, could be a few months, but that's the time scale I'm hoping for.  We have a huge amount of work invested in BOINC so it's only a matter of time before we come back to it.  I'll make sure you're notified of the relaunch, as well as the rest of our user base.

Thanks,

Adam

Many people have been asking, "What is happening with The Lattice Project?". The Lattice Project is doing well and in constant development and frequent production use. Perhaps what many people are interested in, is when will the BOINC aspects of The Lattice Project be active again so people can participate? The answer is in the coming months if all goes well. Running an active BOINC project, and keeping participants happy, requires quite a bit of time. The staffing of The Lattice Project is quite small, but very good. Remember, the use of BOINC in The Lattice Project is unlike that in other projects, in that we have multiple projects (in the BOINC sense) running simultaneously. Many of these projects get completed and therefore are no longer a source of work units. We are currently taking steps to generate a body of projects that that are appropriate for BOINC, and which can provide enough work to satisfy the demands of the community.

Lattice website is now back under a new URL

http://boinc.umiacs.umd.edu/

So if you already have an account with Lattice you will be able to log into the site, new accounts not open as yet, can't connect BOINC client at moment either

May 11, 2007 There's Work in the Pipeline
Within a few weeks, we'll probably open up the project again in some limited capacity in order to test a new application, which is a part of the HMMER suite. This should give everyone something to look forward to!
Looking forward to getting some credit with the project, only been a member for 18 months

Any idea how long they take to complete? First one I got says 24 hours??

Edit

Looks like 40mins for an AMD 6000+ CPU and up to 2Hrs for a P4 3.2Ghz machine

Looks like there may be some problems. I've finished 4, granted credit on 1. The other 3 have all been failed by the other people in the quorum. I thought it might have been because they were Athlons or Semprons but that's not right as the 1 I got credit for was by mine (Opteron) and a dual core Athlon.

Interestingly there's not an Intel in any of them!

Ho hum... the joys of Beta Projects!

Mmmm, Mike here are the results for my P4 machine
http://boinc.umiacs.umd.edu/results.php?hostid=290

and for the AMD
http://boinc.umiacs.umd.edu/results.php?hostid=298

There seems to be a lot of errors downloading?? Could this be a client version error??

Looks like. All the fails are with version 5.8.16 and below. 5.9 and above passing?

November 9, 2007 HMMPfam Runs
Approximately 500 batches (x133 WUs each) of HMMPfam will be trickling in as they get crunched. We should have more information about this project on the research page soon.
Currently 800 WUs remaining for those who want a little diversion!

You don't have to register - it's automatic.

You're showing there...

Perhaps you've just been made UotD and it'll pop in in a couple of hours.

Sorry Steve, seems I was wrong about that.
You used to have to sign on at their forum, but it seems the forum has disappeared! Pity, They owe me 5 UotDs. It shows I have 12 UotDs on the UBT sigs panel, and 17 on myboinc site
