Hi

Don't know when it happened but the BOINCUK Team forum has been discontinued - http://forum3.boincuk.com/ refers

Not sure what to think about that!

I guess they'll continue as a team but not be particularly co-ordinated? A bit like the roughly 400 UBT members that don't use our forum.

Hi Mikee

Thanks for the info.

I guess Mike (founder of BUK) decided enough was enough...maybe he just felt it was time to pull the plug - forums like his (and ours) do seem to be getting fewer and fewer visits, so maybe he reached a point where he didn't want to continue.

Having said that, their website is still operating....and they do have a Facebook presence:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/101319983458/

In fact, I found a webpage (from 8 years ago) where, once again, someone called "sinj" has chosen to have a "dig" at other BOINC teams...

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=4142

They just can't stop themselves taking issue with any other team they feel might be "encroaching" on them...it's really quite sad TBH.

Anyways...perhaps something else will spring up so their team members can still feel part of their team.

If not, they can always jump ship and find another Team who are friendly, helpful and who don't try and play point scoring "games" (hint hint ;-) )

regards
Tim

Hi Mark

'Tis sad but true....though it is a bigger shame that we have over 5,000 Team members, many of whom have now given up BOINC and the vast majority have never set foot within the forum - and that's despite all the "plugs" and weblinks (back to here) that project admins (including myself) have set up on each and every BOINC project.

I guess that the early "difficulties" of setting up BOINC on a PC (which have largely been eradicated by now) made it difficult for people to "get into" the idea and the positive benefits that could come about from being involved.

Having said that, I can see a renewed interest in BOINC developing, just from the likes of GridCoin who are monetizing the idea of crunching certain BOINC projects...so this could easily pull more people into becoming participants...though the downside is that it'll be the Gridcoin team that will just grow and grow at the possible expense of other teams.

regards
Tim
