1695 MHz (1725 MHz OC)

RTX 3080
4352 cores
10GB VRAM

Hi

Nice find! https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-gefo ... d-pictured has to be the ugliest GPU I've ever seen! Imagine trying to clean out the dust bunnies on that - plenty to hold onto I suppose as it's so wide!

Just watched the nvidia twitch video. 3090 looks cool. I’m really gonna miss that kidney.

Hi all

Some great specs and in some ways affordable pricing for the slightly lower spec cards:

https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-anno ... d-rtx-3070

In summary:

Code: Select all

VideoCardz.com	RTX 3090	RTX 3080	RTX 3070
GPU 8nm GA102-300	8nm GA102-200	8nm GA104-300
Board PG132 SKU 30	PG132 SKU 10	PG142 SKU 10
CUDA Cores	10496 8704 5888
Boost Clock	1.70 GHz	1.71 GHz	1.73 GHz
FP32 Perf.	35.7 TFLOPS	29.7 TFLOPS	20.4 TFLOPS
Memory 24GB G6X	10GB G6X	8GB G6
Memory Clock	19.5 Gbps	19 Gbps TBC
Memory Bus	384-bit 320-bit 256-bit
Bandwidth	936 GB/s	760 GB/s	512 GB/s
TGP 350W 320W 220W
MSRP $1499 $699 $499
Now just have to wait and watch the 10x0 and 20x0 Series drop down in price fairly quickly. :-)

regards
Tim

Comparing to the RTX2080ti at launch with 4352 cores, 11 GB VRAM @ 1.5 GHz, 13.4 TFLOPS FP32, 250W and $999.

The 3070 looks really good, 50% more FP32 FLOPS from 35% more cores, 10% less power and half the price.
The 3080 looks very good, more than double the FP32 FLOPS from double the cores, and 30% cheaper. The downside is the 30% increase in power.
The 3090 is an amazing performer but I'm not sure it merits the huge price increase over the 3080, 20% better performance for over double the price? I guess you're paying for the RAM.

Looks like either the 3070 or the 3080 for me, 3080 gives 46% better performance for 45% more power and 40% more cost. I suppose it depends on availability and how the prices translate to sterling.

Edit. UK MSRP - RTX3090 = £1,399, REX3080 = £649 and the RTX3070 = £469

Hi all

...and sure enough, I've now seen GTX 1070's for less than £200 and GTX 1080s for less than £300...

I'm "tempted" by the GTX 3070 but the TDP/TGP of 220 W which is higher than the 180 W rating for the 1080...so, a 40 W difference, which is equivalent to 1000 W per day difference - which is about 20p...and over a year, that's about £70 per annum "extra" (in total running costs) for the 3070.

OTOH, a new 3070 will come with a warranty, which a s/h 1080 won't.

Aw....decisions, decisions !!

Tim

TDP really depends on the project your running. I don't see my GPUs maxing out on TDP doing BOINC projects. If a 3080 does compute a ton faster than the older GPUs a small difference in TDP doesn't amount to much. Besides, I crank down the voltage/power to my GPUs to save some power. Power Limit in Afterburner is set at 60% on all my Nvidia GPUs.

Hi Tim,

Swap two 1080s for a single 3070, 2/3 the power and 2.5 times the performance :)

.... or run it at 80% power for the same power as a 1080 but double the performance :D

.... or if you want to stay with 1080s, I may have a few going cheap in a couple of weeks

If you come to the states I can give you 1080s to pack in your bag for the return trip.

Hi Carl

Thanks for the kind offer - but as Mark says USA is "off limits" at present due to Covid-19 restrictions.

And by the time I can get over there, the likelihood is that the GTX 4xxx or even 5xxx Series might be out :-(

Hi Carl

Interesting....and way out of my price range :-(

Strange that the website says:
It is also worth noting that the fan of the RTX 3080 Founders Edition is not spinning.
And yet between the 1 and 2 second mark, the video shows that the fan does actually start (and continues) to turn...

Initial reviews are in, mainly games related (big improvement on 4k, pretty similar on 1440 and less as limited by the system) but there are some compute tests:
https://www.computerbase.de/2020-09/gef ... 80-test/4/
  • Roughly 50% faster than a 2080ti running blender.
https://hothardware.com/reviews/nvidia- ... iew?page=2
  • Nearly double the 2080ti performance on SciSoft, ditto for Luxmark.
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidi ... 1600327224
  • Minimal opportunity for overclocking the core (+4%), memory fares slightly better (+8%)
  • Double the mining performance of a 2080ti, could benefit from better drivers, would take less than a year to re-coup the cost. Look out for shortages/price hikes due to miners :(
Also, empty spots on the board for the extra memory on a 3090, anyone handy with a soldering iron? :D And the FE boards come with NVidias new 12 way power connector ... which may only be rated for 25 insert/remove cycles! Don't keep swapping the power cable!

They were all on pre-order by about ten past, the NVidia site went straight from "coming soon" to "notify me when in stock" :(
