Intel Core i7-8700K overclocked to 7.4GHz

Post by chriscambridge »

The unlocked Intel Core i7 8700K Coffee Lake-S processor used by Dancop operates out of the box at 3.7GHz base / 4.7GHz boost frequencies, but is of course designed to be easy to overclock as signified by the 'K' suffix. The overclock achieved was 7,344.53MHz (recorded by HWBot as +98.50 per cent). However, the i7-8700K was run with just 3C/3T active rather than its default 6C/12T config.

Hi Chris

Interesting picture...shame that this wasn't achieved inside a proper PC case and with "standard" PC cooling kit !!

Even so, it's good to see that an older mobo can be configured to use a newer CPU...I've gotten really cheesed off with Intel every time they bring out a new generation of chips and it HAS to use a different (and incompatible) socket (to what went before).

I got caught out when they went to Slot 1 all those years ago and then promptly stopped that and went to Socket 370 for later CPUs.

Also: On the HEXUS website I saw a news item that Gigabyte expect GPU prices to fall and, furthermore that a GTX1180 might not be too far away (and hence 10 Series GPUs might then drop in price even further.
