BBC Premier League Football Predictor

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all

So, the English Premier League starts soon and the BBC have rejigged the Euro 2016 predictor game and re=hashed it for the seasons Premier League.

Instead of just 50-odd Euro games to predict, there's now a whole seasons worth ;-) (By my calculations there are 10 games a week and 38 weeks worth of games....that's 380 predictions to be made !!)

Anyone else fancy joining in? (As the "Three Musketeers" of Woodles, Mikee and myself are already pre-registered as we had a bit of fun playing the Euro's Predictor).

The link is here - you'll need to be signed into your BBC website account to join though - just click on "Join an existing league" and enter our PIN: kqva9g

Hi all,

The Beeb has also now set up a Scottish Premier League Predictor League !!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/sco ... /predictor

So. make sure you guess some of the Scottish results too :-)

I've also added a new League, in order to compete with TSBT, if they want to join in !!!

That is here:

and enter code: 0518cs

YES!! Joint first place ... it can only go downhill from here once they actually start playing :(

The link you posted automatically joins you to the league if you have a BBC account. Not a problem but we may end up with a lot of players! :D

Hi Mark

Thanks for the info - I've changed the link so it might be better now.
we may end up with a lot of players!
Is that a BAD thing ?

BTW: I've also posted the above info in the TSBT forum...so we might see a nice little competition start up... ;-)

Not at all but they may all stay on 0 points. Although that would take a lot of pressure off me coming last :)

But TSBT may know what all those funny words mean! Kilmarnock, Midlothian, Motherwell  :? :?:

Hi Mark

Well done Mark. Good results for you :-)

I got one correct score and that was it...!!

What I'm not liking is how difficult the BBC website designers make it for switching between the Premier League and Scottish Premier League Predictor pages...and that's assuming there's a link for the Predictor on the BBC Sports section of the website.

And there's no easy way of getting them to change it either !!

Oh well.... :-(

Thanks Tim

The pages can take a bit of finding on the BBC site, I find it easier to use the links in this thread (when I remember to do it that way).

Ah, so you're mjmmjm!

I did slightly better than Tim and got two results right ... one was the correct score as well!

It is a little difficult to navigate around the site, I have a few shortcuts set up.

Hi

Thought I'd better bump this thread as peeps are forgetting to enter their predictions! Still room for anyone else who wants to join in as we're not the best at predicting if you compare us with the top scorers. So anyone who's any good should catch up quickly!

Hi all

Can anyone who has access to the Predictor League tell me if it is still accessible?

I've had a "run-in" with something or other on my PC and my BBC login doesn't work anymore...so, I want to make sure the League I set up is still available.

Hi both

Thanks for the feedback.

Can you see if the team member "UK BOINC Team" is still listed...as that was my "non-de-plume" and I can't log into my account - it seems it isn't valid anymore :-(

I think I was in 1st place on the Scottish League and about 3rd place on the Premier League.

Hi Mark

Thanks for that. I still can't log in to my BBC account, so I can't make any predictions for the last game of the PL season - so I hopefully will still stay 3rd and 1st in Scottish League
Scottish Sunday football league:
I know the Scottish game is not as "renowned" as other Leagues in Europe, with many comparing it to perhaps an English Championship or League One equivalent...but surely no need to compare with a Sunday league !! ;-) :o

Hi Mark

Yup - me too... :-(

I might just have to re-register, and for this season, I'll use my UBT username - I used the "UK BOINC Team" name before, as I thought I was setting up a Team league, when in fact I was setting up a user account. :-(

UBT-Mikee wrote:HI

Mike
Yup - for some reason, for the 16/17 season, we seemed to have "picked up" a few usernames that I didn't recognise...which is fine as it makes it a bit more challenging ;-)
UBT-mark3346 wrote:Scottish Premiership starts this Saturday
As long as the BBC make it easy to switch from one Predictor page to the other (ie English to Scottish and back again) then this could be good...although I'd much rather prefer if it was all on the one page...

But then the Beeb website is such a pain to navigate when you find an article and want to come back it and find it's not easy to search for the article. :-(

From the index page I right click "open in new tab" for both of them because the navigation is so poor.

The username from my deleted account is still there along with my new Boinc one.

Same here...I wonder if these will "drop out" in due course?

It also looks like the Beeb have removed the link for the Euro Championship league and have now put the English and Scottish Predictor links on the same page here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/predictor

Why they didn't do this last season, one can only guess...as it was difficult trying to navigate to the correct "league" to make the predictions....plus they would move the links around on each page, sometimes putting them at the top of the page and other times the bottom - or even simply omitting them :-(

And after the 1st Week of the Scottish Premier League, I got 30 points - but they haven't updated the table yet :-(

Hi all

The footie season is now over and for those who played the BBC Predictor game, the final standings are now "in".

Premier League
In the UBT PL table, I ended on a high with 160 points on the final weekend, leading to a total of 2790 points and 7th place.

The participants who actually scored points were:

Code: Select all

Posn	Name Score	Points
1	Mcmonkeyfrog	60	3220
2	Hazardpilicueta	80	3090
3	sukki 90	3090
4	fifinex 80	2950
5	SSs19 110	2940
6	MatlockTown	50	2820
7	UBT-Timbo	160	2790
8	MeanResult	50	2750
9	Mboya 50	2740
10	HariKrish	0	2650
11	HadManUtd	40	2600
12	the randomizer	80	2550
13	JamieBurton16	60	2490
14	ndonyisk	140	2360
15	Mikee 0	2130
16	Boinc1 70	1740
17	London is blue	0	1590
18	Yieldee 0	1130
19	TGCrawford	0	870
20	Elvys255	0	860
21	Ctraz 0	650
22	hoping 0	590
23	Morka 0	520
24	Exxtracheese	0	480
25	Legend26	0	440
26	JakeXGalea	0	360
27	Woodles 0	310
28	KILLBILL 2	0	300
29	Robgrim 0	250
30	KarurKumar	0	180
31	dingdangdung	0	160
32	boyland 0	110
33=	Ayu man		0	90
33=	i05_a		0	90
33=	SmartB3		0	90
36	Booker 0	80
37	sanzivskull	0	70

(score shown is the member points earned on the final games of the season).

For the overall Premier League, I finished in 14,299th place, out of 465,223 - so, I finished in the Top 3% :-)

SPL
For the Scottish Premiership, I am thus far in 1st place in the UBT League, with 1590 points, as their "season" hasn't finished yet as the 2nd leg of the play-off final is still to be played on 20th May.

Only 11 players actually scored any points, so it clearly shows that there isn't much interest in the SPL !!

Code: Select all

Posn	Name Score	Points
1	UBT-Timbo	0	1590
2	Boinc1 0	1410
3	Mikee 10	1000
4	fifinex 0	940
5	Ctraz 0	300
6	JamieBurton16	0	250
7	hoping 0	110
8	Woodles 0	80
9	TGCrawford	0	40
8	Yieldee 0	40
11	Hazardpilicueta	0	10
And, overall, I'm in 2093 place out of 63445, so that's well within the Top 1% :-) Hopefully my last prediction might allow me to jump up some places !!

So, well done to Mikee and Woodles - for their contributions - I'm not sure who "Boinc1" is - it could well be "mark3346", but I'm not sure - so I'll have to see if anyone claims that moniker !!

PS: I've just seen that the Predictor page will be "wiped" as of 23rd May 2018 - no doubt as they'll be running a World Cup Predictor "game", like they did for the last Euros...and no doubt for the 2018/2019 season, they'll just reset all the tables and keep the usernames "attached".

Hi Mark

Excellent and well done for a very good 2nd place in the SPL table.

And 16th in the PL table isn't a bad score either ;-)

Also: Looking at how well he did, Lawro's result after 38 "sets" of games was:

Code: Select all

Total scores after week 38
Lawro	3,410
Guests	2,820
So, I think we can assume that as a pundit and ex-pro footballer, he does a good enough job...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44157390

and the Top 10 in the PL was:

Code: Select all

Posn	Name Current round	Overall score
1	Green team	100 3750
2	Kev2608 60 3740
3	ddzim 90 3690
4	HSHARRIES	90 3680
5=	john kearney	50		3640
5=	Vasko		70		3640
7	JC20 90 3630
8	Topping 90 3620
9=	Lucky Duckie	130		3610
9=	macsolo69	100		3610
So, after 380 games, quite a few people got close to scoring an average of 10 points per game....which is pretty darn good !

(Predictor scores 40 points for an EXACT score or 10 points for guessing the result of the game (ie win, lose or draw) )

Thank you for playing the BBC Football Predictor. We hope you enjoyed it! Unfortunately, the Predictor will not be returning to the site for future football seasons.
