Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi all So, I've gone ahead and moved postings I've found concerning "dead" BOINC (or non-BOINC) projects - comprising 169 topics and 1,959 posts - there might stil be a few left that I've missed. If so, please use the "!" icon (above each post you find) to report the posting and I'll move the topic ...

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi Mikee Thanks for your input. I was just thinking up some initial ideas about how to cut down on the number of postings (which would then reduce the database size). Ideally, what would be sensible is to think of a plan that could be carried out once a year, so that "less relevant" postings are rem...

Forum Database needs pruning

Hi all During the recent "upgrade" of the forum software, I have been made aware that the database itself is getting to be very big... This makes it more difficult to administer (from a backup and restore point of view) and of course, it means that it is probably putting more of a "load" on the host...

Re: Feb 1-28: Tour de Primes

Hi Mike

OK - I''ll give it a shot...we're in 11th place on FB, and just a couple of mill behind China:
9 BOINC@Poland 2 163,204,360
10 Team China 1 150,971,898
11 UK BOINC Team 0 148,471,698
So, we could gain a place on FB *and* help PG at the same time :-)

regards
Tim

Re: Bitcoin

Hi If you have an older miner (say 1 year!) it's virtually worthless now as the difficulty is so high now. Hi Mike I would disagree slightly....the interest in Bitcoin has driven up a keen interest in ASIC's on fleabay. I've even seen Antminer 333 MHash USB sticks going for GBP50-80 each....and the...

Re: Change a Letter - 5 letter words

Sorry mate, I know you've got a lot on your plate... I'm happily sat here as a retired person thinking "I don't have to do any of that anymore".... Hiya Don't worry about it...I like being busy, but I'm not so keen when things happen that are outside my control...like the "forum upgrade" failing an...

Re: Change a Letter - 5 letter words

HWSBO is probably busy having a long rest after the upgrade exertions - plenty of time yet to fill a few pages and escape his observations Not just the forum upgrade - but VAT, Self-Assessment and just to "turn the screw" a bit, two items that I import that I had to obtain BS Approval on, have both...

Re: Foundership change/request

Hi Mike Thanks for the heads-up. I've had something like that happen in the past, but not for some time. But this is another reason why we need to ensure that all project founders are ACTIVE members of UBT - else we could find we lose plenty of credits if our Team is hijacked on one (or more) projec...

Now where did THAT go ??

Hi all The forum has now been fully updated, BUT, we have lost a few posts that were made since the forum came back online on Wednesday. This is because the current database file (as of time of writing) couldn't be fully re-integrated with the new version of phpBB forum software as it apparently had...

Re: Portal add-in for forum + forum upgrade

Hi Tim, I didn't use it on anywhere near a daily basis but now and then. If there's no downside to activating it then I'd like it back for the occasional use. Mark Hi Mark I used it every day and found it very helpful. Saved me a lot of time and effort to see what was going on. But of course, one d...

Re: Portal add-in for forum + forum upgrade

Hi Someone mentioned something about a 'portal' a few weeks ago. Still don't know what it was! I always go straight the the forum front page anyway so I won't miss something I never used. Did it have a purpose? Bit late to ask I suppose! Mike Hi Mike The original (standard phpBB) front page is a bi...

Re: Portal add-in for forum + forum upgrade

PS: If any number of members have a strong DISLIKE of the "portal" add-in, then I'll be happy to leave it deactivated. So, please let me know whether you liked it or not...and I'll take the majority view as to whether it should be reactivated, once a compatible version (to the new phpBB software) is...

Portal add-in for forum + forum upgrade

Hi all This coming weekend, I am looking to upgrade the forum software...as it is now lagging behind by one or two releases. As a result, I have now deactivated the "portal" add-in, as it is not currently compatible with the newer 3.2.x version of phpBB software. So, sometime on Saturday afternoon, ...

Welcome to the Team and the forum Ryan, :-) I guess your main focus is going to be about getting the most from your investment in your servers. Put simply, you can decide to help specific projects because of your own interest in them, whether it is physics, mathematics, medical or any of the other s...

Hi Goofy has been offline for several weeks but it looks like it's back up. Check the project hasn't 'backed off' and do a manual update to get them running again. Mike Hi Mikee Well spotted. :) I'd not set Goofy to "No new tasks", so I was hopeful it would re-surface...and sure enough when I check...

Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

It's a lot harder to change the hardware in a PC than it is to change the firmware though. I'm waiting for all the cheap new generation CPUs to come on the market as Google replaces them with pre-2010 Xeons :D Mark Hi Mark True to a degree...from what I've read, it's the speculative "OoO" system us...
