Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

Hi Mark And thus far (although I've not done a search for it) I've not heard about how one can adjust one's own Registry with a "manual update". Which then means, to update your "dodgy" CPU, you need to buy the anti-virus software in order for it to change your registry keys which will then allow Wi...

Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

Hi all And now news breaks that anti-virus makers are going to have to modify how their software works, as the Meltdown security "fix" from Microsoft will require the anti-virus vendors to set a registry key to ensure that the Meltdown "patch" doesn't bork everyones PC's More here: https://www.there...

Re: Formula-Boinc 2018

Obviously your spreadsheets aren't as extensive as mine are  Hi Mark I'll take your word for that !! My spreadsheet is very simple and I just cut and paste the UBT stats from the FB team page and then shift some rows around, so that I take account of any newly added projects to the table. I th...

Hi Mark

Thanks for the correction - I'd got some of the rows on my spreadsheet mixed up, after I did a "sorting"... :-(

Hi all

EDIT: A further "push" on Numberfields project has resulted in UBT moving up to 7th, on 129 points.

You mean Parker's piece.. Although I did grow as a kid a couple of streets away from Jesus Green. Hi Chris Ah...yes, that's the place - when I lived near to Cambridge, I always got those two muddled up. PP is where they hold the Winter Ice Rink and opposite where the fire station was rebuilt...

Re: The 5x 1080 Ti GPU Rack!

Sounds good to me. I don't suppose they get hot enough for bacon .... ? :D Hi Mark I'm sure if they were overclocked and laid on their sides with a bit of tin foil (to stop the bacon grease fouling up the GPU fans), I've sure they would do fine. If the entire rack was enclosed, it might even get ho...

Re: The 5x 1080 Ti GPU Rack!

Hi Chris So, I wonder how the neighbours feel about the amount of fan noise that lot produces?? Plus I'm sure it keeps you nice and warm in the winter. ;-) I was hoping to see a nice heat exchanger, gaffa taped onto the exhausts of the GPU's so that they could boil up your morning cuppa !! regards Tim

Hi Jeff Excellent stuff...I'm sure that hgblade and woodles will enjoy interacting with you on the word puzzles...I tried it for a while and enjoyed it, but, due to work being busier at this time of year, I've not had as much freetime to keep involved. re: Formula-BOINC This is simply a competition,...

When I looked I found that I joined up years ago..... not much happening there though. So I'm following on Twitter too. Hi Jeff Yup - the FB page is "quiet", mainly because I'm focussed more on keeping this forum ticking over. But if new life is breathed into it, then that would be good....plus it ...

I did notice that there's a Twitter account and such, but I don't really bother with that. I'll just have to remember to keep an eye at what's going on in here.... Hi Penny,

Happy New Year :-)

Glad to see you back, after the little issue with your email addy on your account.

Hope you've got your new PC all sorted and running nicely...there's plenty of new projects to get involved with, so feel free to try them out and see which ones you prefer.

Re: How is everyone these days?

Hi Jeff Welcome back and Happy New Year ;-) re: "quiet in here" I think this is simply down to the fact that more people stay in contact via "social media" (ie Facebook, Instagram etc) whereas this forum has mainly stayed focused on BOINC, plus with a few other sections thrown in. Plus, I think a lo...

Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

Hi both Reading some of the comments made (on the website linked to), there are a few theories about what Intel did to their design, in order to make them go faster...something to do with the speculative execution or the processor privileges related to them. Obviously, this was a decision made in or...

Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

Hi all And this time it's a problem with recent Intel CPUs. It seems Intel may have inadvertently introduced a major bug in their CPU hardware that could allow "attackers" to exploit the CPU and access data that should be "ring fenced". http://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/02/intel_cpu_design_flaw/ ...
