Hi all

OK - thanks for all the positive feedback thus far. I will see if I can add the extension in the next few days and see how it works.

Re: Advertising on UBT forum

Hi Tim, <snip> As an aside, what happened to the donation link? It used to be at the top of each page then got moved to the portal then when the portal disappeared, so did the link. Mark Hi Mark The donation link (and other niceties) all disappeared (on purpose) when the forum was upgraded to v3.2....

Advertising on UBT forum

Hi all I am looking to find an easy way to help pay for the website hosting and domain name registration fees. Up until now, it's been funded by yours truly as well as generous donations from a small number of forum users. However, I feel this might be too much of a burden on the kind people who do/...

Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

Hi all It looks like Intel has given up trying to offer a patch for certain of its CPUs, namely: CPUs that won’t therefore get a fix are in the Bloomfield, Bloomfield Xeon, Clarksfield, Gulftown, Harpertown Xeon C0 and E0, Jasper Forest, Penryn/QC, SoFIA 3GR, Wolfdale, Wolfdale Xeon, Yorkfield, and ...

Re: Sztaki closing

Hi There's a possiblilty they might get to 2 million! Looking at BOINCStats the project is giving about 33,000/day - call it 50 days to end of May that's 1.65 million, plus the 834,000 will take it to 2.48 million - bit of a haul but possible providing things stay stable til then. Mike Hi Mike I th...

Re: Sztaki closing

Hi Mark Thanks for the info - that's a real shame...though Sztaki (as a project) has been around for a long time !! Somehow I doubt that we will get any points from this project on the Formula BOINC challenge this year as there have been just less than 800,000 credits awarded (in total) this year - ...

Re: Current Problem with Collataz [info]

Hi Jeff Let them run....there's no issue with tasks sent out to genuine crunchers. The issue will be that the Collatz admins will stop generating new work to be crunched, until they have re-developed the Collatz app that does the "donkey work". But feel free to also allow tasks from other GPU projec...

Re: Current Problem with Collataz [info]

I wouldn't worry too much as GRCPool admin is already on the case. I'm not so worried about the GRC - more the problem is that the Collatz admins must now spend time on checking all the results from this scammer, nullifying them and then re-writing the app code to prevent this happening again. So, ...

Re: Current Problem with Collataz [info]

Hi Chris Thanks for the heads up. One wonders WHY people do this...(yes I know they do it just for the credits)...but the project suffers if the work returned isn't "kosher" and as noted the original tasks have to be returned to the "available work" pile so that people crunching this project, for th...

Great to hear from you...and well done for persevering with WatchGuard....I don't know the thingy myself but I can understand the technicalities of it...so, you've done well to get here. Keep on crunching and if we can be of any help, then just ask away :-) regards Tim

Excellent work - well done !!

The Collatz credits you've earned over the last month or so have really helped :-) And it won't be long before you hit the ONE BEEEELLLION mark ;-)

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi all I've had a little tidy up of a couple of postings that were created (in the dim distant past) as regards forum membership and the forum rules - both of which are now in the ""Non-member questions about UBT" section. As such, the section "New members start here" is now empty and so has been re...

Re: BBC Contagion

Hi Mike So, reading between the lines, Dr Hannah Fry will walk around Haslemere (a small town in Surrey I know well !!) and she'll somehow "infect" people nearby? One assumes this will be via a mobile phone app that will maybe use GPS and Bluetooth to "hunt" for other people nearby, who have downloa...

Hi all The 2018 Tour de Primes result page has now been published: http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/tdp_2018.php Sadly, it looks like no UBT members found a Prime :-( And it seems that only certain sub-projects were "counting" towards the above list, namely: GFN-16, GFN-17-MEGA, GFN-17-LOW, GFN-18...

GPU prices hitting alien search

Hi all A nice BBC report about Dan Werthimer and the problem that SETI are having, buying GPUs in order to support their search for ET: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-43056744 So, maybe we should all do Bitcoin mining and just give SETI a share of the money earned (obv, as we have to be able t...
