Re: Holy Grail: Dual V1 Xeon Mobo £69.99

Hi Chris Thanks for the extra info. I was wondering about the network ports, as the Quanta server description mentioned that the onboard network port was for "monitoring purposes"...but looking at the actual pictures of the board, it showed an RJ45 socket near to the USB and VGA ports, and there see...

Re: Holy Grail: Dual V1 Xeon Mobo £69.99

Hi Chris Great find !! One thing I spotted is that Foxconn version doesn't have a PCIe slot...so, if anyone has a nice GPU, then it can't be used on this board. The Quanta board does have a PCIe slot, so even though on the ordering screen, it talks about a Riser; declining this doesn't mean you won'...

Re: UBT stats finally disappearing?

Hi all Still working for me too. And according to Nominet WHOIS, the following is shown: Relevant dates: Registered on: 07-Oct-2010 Expiry date: 07-Oct-2020 Last updated: 07-Nov-2018 So, I guess John is still paying for the annual (or in this case bi-annual) re-registration. For my domain names, I a...

Re: Connecting two gigabit switches together

Its funny you should mention this as i'm just about to buy a couple of switches for the server and other stuff. It was my understanding that you could just daisy chain them from the router, attaching pcs off each switch and all would work normally? As in Tim's diagram. Am I right in thinking this w...

Re: Gridcoin not welcome at PrimeGrid

PrimeGrid wants to be able to trust its results so is asking Gridcoin to remove them from their whitelist. http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=8272 No monetary gains for crunching PrimeGrid, less chance of someone cheating and falsifying results. Personally, I think this is going to catch ...

Re: Not getting tasks for most projects

Ok, have some logs! I had a bit of a look through, it seems to be saying that shortfall is nil, so it doesn't think the CPU needs any more work. I've tweaked those settings you suggested, we'll see what happens.... Hiya I took a quick look through the log file and after a bit of sorting and collati...

Re: Not getting tasks for most projects

In my experience, Collatz doesn't need a full CPU core for each task especially as it's only used at the start and end of each task. To persuade it otherwise you'll need an app_config file. <app_config> <app> <name>collatz_sieve</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>1.00</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>0.50</cpu...

Re: Not getting tasks for most projects

Hiya Yup - I left out one of the settings, namely under Disk and memory and the setting for Use no more than [ ] % of total - this I have as unticked. So, of the other settings you have the one that could well have an effect, (and I think Mark has pointed this out in a previous post) is the one for:...

Re: Not getting tasks for most projects

Hi Just another opinion to add to the cause: Check the BOINC Manager > Computing preferences and let us know what all the settings are for the "Computing" tab and the "Disk and memory" tab - so just advise the actual numbers in the boxes...no need to copy the box titles, as long as the numbers are i...

Re: Connecting two gigabit switches together

Hi Neil It might be an idea if you can "draw" the layout of the network cabling, along the lines of: internet=====router======24 port switch========8 port switch | | | | | | i7 i3 Also check that both switches are "dumb" and do not actually have their own network config/admin sections. regards Tim

Re: Eleven digits!

Hi Tim, Thanks :) Collatz is currently 713 million a month and that's with half my cards offline and a break for part of the last sprint. Should be 1.2 billion a month when everything is running - six years :shhh: Mark Here's hoping Collatz doesn't run out of work before then ;-) although at least ...

Re: Eleven digits!

Hi Mark I got my intial sums wrong, but even so, 6-10 years is going to take some doing. ;-) Mind you, within that timeframe NVidia will probably release ever faster GPUs and older GPUs will drop in price and so, anything is possible. I wonder if BOINC will still be going by then - it's been going l...

Hi Mark So, 10,004,011,945.17 eh ?? That deserves a very big WOW ;-) Very well done and I'm guessing you will never add another one hahahahahahahaha Given Collatz is probably the best credit earner, to get another 90,000,000,000 credits, that is going to take an awfully long time...at current rates ...

Re: Dual Xeon V2 Mobo deals (Chinese Equivalent of Natex deals)

Just did a bit more research and people should be aware that these mobos are only dual ranked memory, not quad. Hi Chris From what I understand, SINGLE ranked memory is better than DUAL and DUAL is better than QUAD ? https://www.oempcworld.com/support/singlevsdualram.html I'll have to go and check ...

Re: Dual Xeon V2 Mobo deals (Chinese Equivalent of Natex deals)

Hi Chris, Given the issues I'm having with my Natex board, I might be interested in just a new mobo...and then I can swap CPU's, coolers and RAM from my Natex board onto one of these? So, are you thinking of buying a job lot and then we can share them out between any interested parties ? regards Tim

Re: Time for some new hardware

Hi Chris I think that AMD are just trying to play Intel at the numbers game - in this case with the number of cores ! However, I can see that having so many cores could actually be helpful in the productivity side of the PC business as (in theory) one could run any number of virtual environments con...
