Formula-BOINC Sprints in 2018

Hi all As a Team we are committed to taking part in the Formula-BOINC challenges each year and these include the Sprints, which are short duration challenges dedicated to a specific BOINC project. These are the dates of the Sprints for this year, copied directly off the Formula-BOINC website (and wi...

Re: Joke Thread

In tribute to the late, great Sir Ken Dodd, here's a link to the BBC website with 17 of his gags (although I know there are far, far more...) ;-) :

Re: Up another place in the stats table.

Hi Jeff

Excellent work - well done !!

The Collatz credits you've earned over the last month or so have really helped :-) And it won't be long before you hit the ONE BEEEELLLION mark ;-)

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi all I've had a little tidy up of a couple of postings that were created (in the dim distant past) as regards forum membership and the forum rules - both of which are now in the ""Non-member questions about UBT" section. As such, the section "New members start here" is now empty and so has been re...

Re: BBC Contagion

Hi Tim, So what you're saying is that if a flu epidemic actually breaks out then I should head for Haslemere? :D Hi Mark ONLY if you fancy a few days off from work, OFFICIALLY....though to be honest, it's easier to stay in bed, all nice and cosy, and bung some small lumps of tissue up your nostrils...

Re: BBC Contagion

Hi Mike So, reading between the lines, Dr Hannah Fry will walk around Haslemere (a small town in Surrey I know well !!) and she'll somehow "infect" people nearby? One assumes this will be via a mobile phone app that will maybe use GPS and Bluetooth to "hunt" for other people nearby, who have downloa...

Re: Feb 1-28: Tour de Primes

Hi all The 2018 Tour de Primes result page has now been published: http://www.primegrid.com/challenge/tdp_2018.php Sadly, it looks like no UBT members found a Prime :-( And it seems that only certain sub-projects were "counting" towards the above list, namely: GFN-16, GFN-17-MEGA, GFN-17-LOW, GFN-18...

Re: Valentine ChOcoLATZe for Moon* BAM challenge success

HI Mark I wasn't aware of it, but UBT is one team that is automatically entered for all their competitions/challenges...so, although I wasn't advised about it, we were still part of it. :-) I've tried to do the same on WCG, (which is another project that has weekly/monthly challenges) but they don't...

GPU prices hitting alien search

Hi all A nice BBC report about Dan Werthimer and the problem that SETI are having, buying GPUs in order to support their search for ET: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-43056744 So, maybe we should all do Bitcoin mining and just give SETI a share of the money earned (obv, as we have to be able t...

Prime Grid - I found an AP21 ;-)

Hi all This is now getting silly and and a bit embarrassing: Dear AP finder, Congratulations! Our records indicate that a computer registered by you has found a unique Arithmetic Progression of primes of length 21. This computer is assigned to the AP27 project. Since primes found in this subproject ...

Yahoo - or is it Yafu ?

Hi all

At last I've hit the One Million mark on Yafu !!

https://boincstats.com/en/stats/121/user/list/0/0/55/0

Some way to go, to pass Mark, but I might be able to sneak past Mikee (if no-one tells him ;-) )

Indeed, I just thought I'd get a few points on the board for another new project. It's not going to be a regular one for me.

Hi Mark

Same here...got a few on the board myself. I don't like having "zero" credits on any project I join up with (esp if I'm the founder !!).

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi Chris Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure that the Site Logo extension did some other fancy stuff as well, which meant you were not constrained to the phpBB image limitations. So, I'll give it a while and see what david63 comes up with as a software update, as his extensions makes it real simple...

Re: Goofyxgrid for CPU :-)

Hi Mark Thanks for the info. I would imagine that eventually, it will be rolled out, into the NCI project and it can then just be crunched like existing Goofy tasks, using the same account details (as the NCI project). However, on the "down" side is that none of the credits will count on Formula-BOI...

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi Chris, I've not missed it. The issue is that the forum has been upgraded to the latest phpBB version which is v3.2.2. And many of the extensions I used before, the software writers have not released new versions that will work with this - this is mainly because: a) phpBB v3.2.2 was released quite...

Falcon Heavy webcast

Hi all I wonder if anyone else was as transfixed as I was this evening when the "demo" launch test of Space Xs Falcon Heavy took off? Brilliant efforts by them to launch and then simultaneously land the two outer boosters on land - the landing of the "core stage" wasn't covered, so it remains to be ...

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi all A bit more pruning has taken place. This time, any previous years topics about Formula-BOINC have been moved to a new sub-forum within the members area. I've also taken the liberty on ensuring that the "forum rules" link is on every forum section - it was viewable on some sections but not on ...
