Re: AMD Users Passed

...and 12 years later, we've passed lots of teams... AMD Users are in 19th place and Portugal@home are in 47th place (in the World stats and according to BOINCstats) I guess, in the end, it is patience and an on-going need to help as many projects as possible that has kept UBT ticking over, while ot...

(The difference is explained by the fact that fewer are crunching GPU projects right now, which might be due to the e...

Only SETI.Germany are ahead of us as a National team, whereas most other teams ahead of us are "International".

Re: Too hot to crunch?

Hi Jeffers Of late, I've actually stopped my GPU crunching and committing to 100% CPU crunching. This still allows lots of processing but far reduces the heat output from my small number of PCs. Of course, that may change if a GPU project is chosen for a FB Sprint, or indeed if we start falling back...

PADOLF @home

Hi all I came across this by chance and thought it might interest some people: http://plfcomputing.com/padolfathome.html Basically this is a portable, live implementation of BOINC and it can run BOINC from a bootable USB port on an unused PC. From the documentation it seems to run Einstein@home and ...

Re: Intel Core i7-8700K overclocked to 7.4GHz

Hi Chris Interesting picture...shame that this wasn't achieved inside a proper PC case and with "standard" PC cooling kit !! Even so, it's good to see that an older mobo can be configured to use a newer CPU...I've gotten really cheesed off with Intel every time they bring out a new generation of chi...

Re: New project - Acoustics@home

Hi all I've now got my Acoustics@home account sorted out...it's taken a year or so but I now have access to my Acoustics@home account. For me, personally, this is a "personal" fave project for me as I've been involved in the "audio" industry since the late 1970s...so I'm keen to get some BOINC credi...

Re: Hi everyone

First post so go easy. Have been a BOINC user for some time, initially with SETI and now more recently with Primegrid. Wanted to get as many Primegrid badges as possible but found the length of time it took wingmen to validate some of the longer projects (Genefer 20, 21) my daily total dropped of d...

Hi all This might bring back memories for some - it's the 31st May 1987 edition of Micro File where they talk about email, and using modems (actually acoustic couplers in one instance !!!!). https://computer-literacy-project.pilots.bbcconnectedstudio.co.uk/496d0ab45056a14450bc62def8a46ced Times real...

BBC Computer Literacy Project

Hi all The BBC has released details of the Computer Literacy Project, containing lots of TV programme recordings going back to the beginnings of the home computer industry, such as the BBC Model B. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-44628869 You can view stuff here: https://computer-literacy-proj...

Happy Birthday to the Team

Hi all I'm a bit late with this as I was away on the actual day. Basically, UBT has celebrated another birthday, this time it is 14 . It was originally set up on 23rd June 2004, so UBT is well into being a teenager, with all the possible issues and dramas ahead of it (NOT !!). And the very first pro...

Re: Making a PCB is easy...

Hi Mikee, Very interesting....that is one hell of a "find". What made you look that up? Going back to the late 1970's I used to buy ETI (Electronics Today International) and Elektor magazines from my local WH Smiths, whenever there was an interesting article I wanted to see or try out. (I was a budd...

Hi all

And now Einstein@home has joined this particular "movement":

I guess that the named stats websites will be OK...but others will not (including ubtstats.co.uk)?

Intel to make GPUs by 2020

Hi all A bit of news that might be of interest to you. It seems that Intel have announced that they will launch some discrete GPUs sometime around 2020: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/06/13/intel_gpus_2020/ Of course, it remains to be seen if a) they are any good and b) BOINC projects will supor...

User stats and GDPR

Hi all I just became aware that apparently WCG has stopped exporting it's credit stats, due to GDPR legislation. One assumes they were exporting some personal data in the stats and by ceasing this, they now comply. https://boincstats.com/en/stats/15/country/list/ I'm glad Formula-BOINC choose WCG as...
