Re: Nvidia 3xxx possible specs.

Hi all It seems there has been a heist at a MSI factory in China as 40 cartons of RTX3090 have been nicked. The haul of around 220 GPUs is worth around US $ 330,000. https://www.techradar.com/news/dollar330000-worth-of-rtx-3090-gpus-have-been-stolen-from-an-msi-factory So, if you get offered one on...

Re: Nvidia 3xxx possible specs.

Yes, that's the article. John P. Meyers of SETI.USA is engineer and critiques most new hardware. This is another of his comments... Many of them that didn't do so well in the silicon lottery are crashing, artifacting, freezing up, blackscreening, etc. Because of that, GPU makers will start issuing n...

Re: Running multiple copies of Boinc.

Yoyo doesn't allow multiple clients either. It behaves like GPUGrid and abandons WUs on other clients.

2018 Pentathlon

I didn't see UBT on the list of registered teams. If that's true and there's anyone who would like to participate, SETI.USA would be glad to have you join them. You can either join to SETI.USA forum and say hello or drop Bryan or Sphynx a PM on the TSBT forum.

Thanks,

Steve

Re: Pi 2 - Projects?

When you say 'tally', what do you mean by this? Just run projects to get some more hours? And I think Collatz has an app but it was estimating ~15-20 days/job and I didn't want to risk the Pi deciding to turn off after say 10 days and having all of that work wasted! Yes, run projects to get more WU...

Re: Pi 2 - Projects?

CSG SubsetSum used to pay pretty well on ARM systems but that sub-project is not active any more. I just use mine to tally up WUProp hours. There are even some apps that only run on ARM systems, Einstein and Albert I think and Collatz micro.

Re: Anyone crunching on a Xeon E5-2696 V4 CPU?

The Xeon V4 CPUs smoke on project apps which use AVX/AVX2. Run some SRBase. There are other projects which also take advantage of AVX/AVX2 optimized apps too. TN-Grid might be one also. Note: When running AVX/AVX2 apps, the threads may downclock a few hundred Hz but the performance gain of AVX more ...

Re: Running 2 monitors off one GPU?

I run 2 monitors off a GTX 1080 but it only has 1 DVI port, 1 HDMI and 3 Display ports. I use the DVI and HDMI. Don't recall that I had any issues. Don't need to change anything under the desktop settings/properties do you? What OS? If linux, which desktop? What model 970?

Re: Case cooling fan suggestions

I've always liked Noctua fans. Check out the: NF-P12 19.8 dB/A, 54 CFM, 1.68 mm H20 NF-S12A FLX 17.8 dB/A, 63 CFM, 1.19 mm H20 Other models too. Just depends on how much air flow you want vs. how quiet you want it to be. All Notcua fans I've bought have come with an in-line RPM reducer/resistor that...

Re: Question about multiple Graphics Cards (multiple GPUs)

The BIOS has settings to control whether the IGPU or PCIe GPU is the default GPU. You can also disable the IGPU if you wish. I've always been concerned about burning up the IGPU while crunching on it and trashing the mobo. Maybe that's not concern. Been a long time since I did and don't recall temps...

Re: Advice on the GTX 980 Ti vs the GTX 970?

Congratulations Chris, they're a great little GPU (I've got one identical to that one :) ) You can get new 1070s from the States for £310 - £350 (check out Newegg) but they come with £70 tax and duty and £30 P&P. Regards, Mark If a friend mails you a GPU, do you still have to pay import taxes? Also...

Re: Advice on the GTX 980 Ti vs the GTX 970?

FWIW, on POEM (when it was still alive) a 1070 was about 1.5x faster than a 970 (not all projects are the same though) and a 1070 uses 120 watts (non-OC) while a 970 uses 150 watts. It's worth finding some stats on various projects, doing the math and seeing what the payback period is for the Pascal...

They're not scooping them up fast enough! CAS actually sets a pretty low limit for the number WUs it will give you. Not more than 2 per core I don't think.
