Re: Portal add-in for forum + forum upgrade

PS: If any number of members have a strong DISLIKE of the "portal" add-in, then I'll be happy to leave it deactivated. So, please let me know whether you liked it or not...and I'll take the majority view as to whether it should be reactivated, once a compatible version (to the new phpBB so...

Portal add-in for forum + forum upgrade

Hi all This coming weekend, I am looking to upgrade the forum software...as it is now lagging behind by one or two releases. As a result, I have now deactivated the "portal" add-in, as it is not currently compatible with the newer 3.2.x version of phpBB software. So, sometime on Saturday a...

Re: Hello everyone - I'm not so new to BOINC. First time in a TEAM tho.

Welcome to the Team and the forum Ryan, :-) I guess your main focus is going to be about getting the most from your investment in your servers. Put simply, you can decide to help specific projects because of your own interest in them, whether it is physics, mathematics, medical or any of the other s...

Re: Goofyxgrid - Extra Credits :)

Hi Goofy has been offline for several weeks but it looks like it's back up. Check the project hasn't 'backed off' and do a manual update to get them running again. Mike Hi Mikee Well spotted. :) I'd not set Goofy to "No new tasks", so I was hopeful it would re-surface...and sure enough wh...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #1 22nd-25th March 2018

Hi Tim, I'm going to have a look at last years sprints and see if that gives me any ideas. I'll also be building up a cache of unreported tasks from any running projects before the sprint is announced just in case that project is selected. Hi Mark That's a good point...if the deadline for any "...

Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

It's a lot harder to change the hardware in a PC than it is to change the firmware though. I'm waiting for all the cheap new generation CPUs to come on the market as Google replaces them with pre-2010 Xeons :D Mark Hi Mark True to a degree...from what I've read, it's the speculative "OoO"...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #1 22nd-25th March 2018

That's sufficient notice to stockpile work from ALL the projects just in case :D Now if only the deadlines were long enough ... Hi Mark IIRC, CPDN has the longest deadlines...but their tasks also take the longest time...and then it's going to be a question of being selected for a Sprint...which won...

Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

Hi Tim, You can use regedit to manually change or create any registry key or run a .reg text file to do the same. You could create or set the key with no additional help or simply run a file that Microsoft or the anti-virus vendor sends you. Hi Mark Agreed - but no-one has said which keys need to b...

Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

Hi Mark And thus far (although I've not done a search for it) I've not heard about how one can adjust one's own Registry with a "manual update". Which then means, to update your "dodgy" CPU, you need to buy the anti-virus software in order for it to change your registry keys whic...

Re: Intel CPU "memory bug" needs fixing

Hi all And now news breaks that anti-virus makers are going to have to modify how their software works, as the Meltdown security "fix" from Microsoft will require the anti-virus vendors to set a registry key to ensure that the Meltdown "patch" doesn't bork everyones PC's More her...

Re: Formula-Boinc 2018

Obviously your spreadsheets aren't as extensive as mine are  Hi Mark I'll take your word for that !! Sounds good to me. I don't suppose they get hot enough for bacon .... ? :D Hi Mark I'm sure if they were overclocked and laid on their sides with a bit of tin foil (to stop the bacon grease fouling up the GPU fans), I've sure they would do fine. If the entire rack was enclosed, it might even get ho...

Re: The 5x 1080 Ti GPU Rack!

Hi Chris So, I wonder how the neighbours feel about the amount of fan noise that lot produces?? Plus I'm sure it keeps you nice and warm in the winter. ;-) I was hoping to see a nice heat exchanger, gaffa taped onto the exhausts of the GPU's so that they could boil up your morning cuppa !! regards Tim
