Re: Will UBT get to 1 TRILLION credits?

Hi all So, my GTX970 is taking about 800-900 seconds (abt 15 mins) per Collatz task and that is earning about 30,000 credits per task. Currently my GTX580 is taking 7,500 seconds (just over 2 hours) and is earning about 37,000 credits per task. I'll need to investigate any Collatz optimised config p...

Re: Will UBT get to 1 TRILLION credits?

Hi Mark Ok - sounds good. My GTX 5xx Series comprises: a 590, 2x 580s, a 560Ti and a 560 (I counted the 590 as 2 GPUs, as it's really 2x 580s on one PCB). The 580 and the 970 have now been switched over to Collatz to see how they fare - and to see how hot they get - the 580 on MilkyWay I could get d...

Re: Will UBT get to 1 TRILLION credits?

Hi Mark, Yup - we're currently earning about 40 million per day on Collatz, according to BOINCstats: https://boincstats.com/en/stats/86/team/list/0/0/United%20Kingdom Though our weekly and 4-weekly stats imply a lower figure - around 30m and 15m per day, respectively. But I'm sure that with a bit of...

Re: Will UBT get to 1 TRILLION credits?

Hi all Just as a follow up, these are the current MONTHLY credit totals for these projects that support GPUs (and some also support CPUs, but there's no way of knowing the "split" between them :-( ) Collatz - 467,029,339 PrimeGrid - 93,188,456 Moo - 59,422,032 Einstein - 56,382,586 MilkyWay - 23,679...

Will UBT get to 1 TRILLION credits?

Hi all So, while I'm thinking of doing something creative at work, (and needing to let my brain think it over) I had a quick nosey over at BOINCstats.com just to see how we are doing in the UK stats. https://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/team/list/0/0/United%20Kingdom It'll be no surprise to anyone tha...

Re: Pick a number - GTX1180 / GTX2080 / RTX2080

Hi Mark Thanks for the extra info. I would imagine that the reviews will be positive but with caveats attached. So, my guess is that most people will hang onto their GTX10xx Series for now until such time as a few "popular" games creators supply some updates to take advantage of the new hardware. Be...

Forum "tidy up" complete (for now)

Hi all I've now moved all the relevant posts (of which there were many) out of one forum section and moved the posts selectively to other sections where they might be best. I've now shut down the redundant (and now empty) section and then I've moved the Team sections to the top and then they are fol...

Re: Award from WCG

Hi Jeff, Excellent work - well done. I think WCG is probably one of the better projects with real world objectives, even if it is really using volunteer computing for commercial gain. If somehow a breakthrough can be made with regards to Cancer cure and/or prevention, then this could be life changin...

Re: UBT #1 in the UK

Hi all

Just bumping this back up, as I missed this particular anniversary of this MILESTONE a month or so ago. :-(

Basically 10 years ago, we became the #1 UK team...and we've held onto this ever since.

So, well done to everyone involved, past and present for making this happen !!

regards
Tim

New 'low requirements' Linux OS

Hi all If you have an older PC lying around and want to make use of it (maybe for some BOINC crunching) then this might suit: Elive Min. Requirements: 192 Mb RAM, 500 Mhz CPU, 32-bit, non-UEFI, sysinit, PAE (bigmem) kernel + 486 kernel A free download is available: https://www.elivecd.org/download/s...

Re: I've got a Billion!

I've had a look back through the Forum and it looks like my first post in this section was back in September 2007, when I'd reached the heady heights of 50k! How times change, eh? The points roll in a bit quicker than that these days.... Hi Jeff Indeed - with GPUs and faster, multi-core CPUs, credi...

Re: I've got a Billion!

Hi Jeff Excellent stuff...I recall getting quite excited at hitting one million in total BOINC credits...but over time, with improvements in CPU and GPU performance levels, one can get a bit blase about hitting such achievements - though getting to 1M on *each* project is still pretty tough going. B...

Re: Joke Thread

A joke from a friend of mine on Facebook: Waiting between Bishop Stortford and Harlow, to catch speeding drivers, a Police Officer sees a car puttering along at 11MPH. Says he to himself: "This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!" So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over. Approachin...

Re: Social thread

HI Penny Condolences on losing your father earlier in the year. It's a strange thing: We're told what to do by our parents for the 1st 15+ years, and we don;t have a choice. Then we have to go through the 'difficult teen years' and then we get married and have kids...so that takes up the next 15+ yr...

Re: Social thread

Hi Jeff Thanks for taking the plunge !! Mind you - I think you should get a better deal than half price beer... ;-) My philosophy these days is do what you can while you can you're a long time dead.... Since my diagnosis for cancer (about 9 years ago) I can totally agree with this...life really is t...

Social thread

Hi all This forum has been going for so long, and we've had a good number of postings submitted. But one thing we've never really done is to think about peoples welfare...both physically and mentally. When we're young, we don't think about the fragility of life nor the issues arising from an 'aging ...

Re: User of the day

Hi When fsnet was closed down a few years ago I had to change most of the project email addresses. Some I couldn't change as they had closed down and were unavailable any more. This meant that UOTD ceased picking up fsnet results and restarted with the gmail account, hence, I have 2 entries in the l...
