GPU prices hitting alien search

Hi all A nice BBC report about Dan Werthimer and the problem that SETI are having, buying GPUs in order to support their search for ET: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-43056744 So, maybe we should all do Bitcoin mining and just give SETI a share of the money earned (obv, as we have to be able t...

Hi Well I wasn't going to say anything but , yes I've found few since restarting. Now at 14 length 20 and 5 length 21. Mike Hi Mike OK - I'll shut up then...I thought it was perhaps just me earning these congratulatory emails ;-) (Nothing wrong with that, but I'm glad that others are being recognis...

Prime Grid - I found an AP21 ;-)

Hi all This is now getting silly and and a bit embarrassing: Dear AP finder, Congratulations! Our records indicate that a computer registered by you has found a unique Arithmetic Progression of primes of length 21. This computer is assigned to the AP27 project. Since primes found in this subproject ...

Yahoo - or is it Yafu ?

Hi all

At last I've hit the One Million mark on Yafu !!

https://boincstats.com/en/stats/121/user/list/0/0/55/0

Some way to go, to pass Mark, but I might be able to sneak past Mikee (if no-one tells him ;-) )

Indeed, I just thought I'd get a few points on the board for another new project. It's not going to be a regular one for me.

Hi Mark

Same here...got a few on the board myself. I don't like having "zero" credits on any project I join up with (esp if I'm the founder !!).

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi Chris Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure that the Site Logo extension did some other fancy stuff as well, which meant you were not constrained to the phpBB image limitations. So, I'll give it a while and see what david63 comes up with as a software update, as his extensions makes it real simple...

Re: Goofyxgrid for CPU :-)

Hi Mark Thanks for the info. I would imagine that eventually, it will be rolled out, into the NCI project and it can then just be crunched like existing Goofy tasks, using the same account details (as the NCI project). However, on the "down" side is that none of the credits will count on Formula-BOI...

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi Chris, I've not missed it. The issue is that the forum has been upgraded to the latest phpBB version which is v3.2.2. And many of the extensions I used before, the software writers have not released new versions that will work with this - this is mainly because: a) phpBB v3.2.2 was released quite...

Falcon Heavy webcast

Hi all I wonder if anyone else was as transfixed as I was this evening when the "demo" launch test of Space Xs Falcon Heavy took off? Brilliant efforts by them to launch and then simultaneously land the two outer boosters on land - the landing of the "core stage" wasn't covered, so it remains to be ...

Hi Penny

Thanks for the post.

Buses? Maybe, assuming another one comes along pretty soon...

PS: I just fixed your avatar - it must have gone "missing" when the forum was upgraded.

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi all A bit more pruning has taken place. This time, any previous years topics about Formula-BOINC have been moved to a new sub-forum within the members area. I've also taken the liberty on ensuring that the "forum rules" link is on every forum section - it was viewable on some sections but not on ...

Goofyxgrid for CPU :-)

Hi all A CPU version of Goofy is now undergoing testing: http://cpu.goofyxgridathome.net This is also the URL to use with the "Tools > Add project..." menu item in BOINC Manager. You need to set up a new account - I've just created our Team here: http://cpu.goofyxgridathome.net/team_display.php?team...

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi all So, I've gone ahead and moved postings I've found concerning "dead" BOINC (or non-BOINC) projects - comprising 169 topics and 1,959 posts - there might stil be a few left that I've missed. If so, please use the "!" icon (above each post you find) to report the posting and I'll move the topic ...

Re: Forum Database needs pruning

Hi Mikee Thanks for your input. I was just thinking up some initial ideas about how to cut down on the number of postings (which would then reduce the database size). Ideally, what would be sensible is to think of a plan that could be carried out once a year, so that "less relevant" postings are rem...

Forum Database needs pruning

Hi all During the recent "upgrade" of the forum software, I have been made aware that the database itself is getting to be very big... This makes it more difficult to administer (from a backup and restore point of view) and of course, it means that it is probably putting more of a "load" on the host...

Re: Feb 1-28: Tour de Primes

Hi Mike

OK - I''ll give it a shot...we're in 11th place on FB, and just a couple of mill behind China:
9 BOINC@Poland 2 163,204,360
10 Team China 1 150,971,898
11 UK BOINC Team 0 148,471,698
So, we could gain a place on FB *and* help PG at the same time :-)
