Re: Anyone crunching on a Xeon E5-2696 V4 CPU?

Hi Chris, Now that is pretty awesome - 44 threads for TDP of about 150W !! Not so long ago, Intel were doing well to provide 2 cores for around 120W - ok, so maybe it was nearly 20 years ago (Pentium P4)... Even so, "CPU" design has come a long way and multi-core CPU's are the "norm&q...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

Hi all So, we did finish in 6th place in this Sprint, so a very useful 8 points earned :-) We're currently 16 points ahead of Poland in the Marathon, but we still need more points, so that we can finish in 6th place in the Marathon at the end of the year, (as barring a miracle, we have no chance of ...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

I understand. Well If I am not about on a sprint then if someone PM's me and I will try and put some/most/all of my boxes on the case. 3 days non-GRC is not too bad in terms of RAC so I can normally make it up fairly quickly. Hi Chris Thanks for the offer. The next Sprint is not until the (long) we...

QCN, Quaker catcher network? If so, how are the points in doubt.. #3 UK BOINC Team 1,811 #4 BOINCstats 266 Or did you mean a different project? Hi Chris On the FB Marathon, we've been awarded 15 points on QCN project (yup - you guessed correctly) and so we have 15 more "FB Marathon" point...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

Hi Chris, As of 10am, we're still 4 mill ahead of S.Germany and we've closed the gap to L'AF, but still lagging by 7 million. So, over the next 6 hours, I doubt we'll lose our 6th position. I've got one task that should finish by the end of the Sprint - the other one has started so I'll leave it to ...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

Hi Mark Thanks for the info. I was fairly sure it was something along the lines of using BOINC CMD command line commands (sic) ;-) But I didn't expect it to be a batch file !! Not used such a thing for years, probably all the way back to when I'd edit autoexec.bat and config.sys files, using 4DOS - ...

Re: Gerasim is back

Hi all Just a heads-up, in case you didn't know. I've been running Gerasim recently, but found that one PC wasn't getting enough tasks. It seems there is a user-adjustable "Project Preference" on the project website that limits the number of Gerasim tasks you can download. :-) The default ...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

I'm away oop North for a long weekend from tonight so I've left my hosts asking for work every five minutes and I'll turn the network back on before I go. Hopefully that'll be good enough. Mark HI Mark OK - so how do you get BOINC to request tasks every 5 mins? Is this a BOINC CMD command-line func...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

Hi all

We're still in 6th place but we're 2 million ahead of S. Germany now.

I just wish there was more work available - I've got one PC still waiting for work :-(

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

Hi Just tried that on Sztaki - defaulted back to 100 on pressing update preferances - was at 1000. Mike Hi Mike Confirmed - the lowest number you can set is "1" :-( And when I tried this on MindModelling, my PC promptly downloaded a stack of tasks, even though it had a full cache of Geras...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

Not having looked into it in any great depth (bit difficult on a 'phone!) is it related to this http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=4514 and they're different classes of workunits. Mark Hi Mark And hidden within that forum link was this little gem (which I didn't know !!) A backup project is...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

However, it can be a good thing to have a couple of shorter tasks for the last few hours of the sprint. The 8-12 hours ones might pay more but they are worthless in the sprint if they complete 5 minutes after the deadline. Chris. Hi Chris Absolutely...so, one has to judge, at some point on the last...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

Good research Tim. I think whoever programmed the algorithm perhaps had been drinking, or smoking.. 50K secs on a 1070 and 1080Ti, and yet the 1070 which does a fraction of the work the 1080 Ti gets 483K credits compared to just 351K for the Ti. Madness! :naughty: Hi Chris This issue is clearly tha...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

and here's the first stats for my first validated 2-3 hour task: Run time(sec) CPU time(sec) Credit 22,674.17 21,052.64 77,250.00 So, the lesson to be learned is: Only allow the 8-12 hour tasks, as the short runs can take nearly as long, but they don't pay the same credits if a similar time is taken...

Re: Formula-BOINC Sprint #16 5th-8th Oct 2017

My 3 GPUGrid tasks after 5 hours are at 66%, 71%, and 81%. All three on long runs tasks. How can you tell what they are worth? Or do they score 86K for short run and 252K for long run? Hi Chris I've only done the 4 aforementioned tasks, (which in theory were 8-12 hours each) but 2 of them finished ...

Team (Points) Total credits 1 SETI.USA (25) 4,733,050 2 L'Alliance Francophone (18) 1,...
