Re: Arecibo telescope damaged
Hi all So, Arecibo is (for now) no more. But there's a potential new plan that, for less than $400m, a new tiltable platform, could replace the original main dish and on this steerable platform could be placed upto 1000 9-metre telescopes giving increased power and sensitivity, compared to the old v...

Re: Linux code to display CPU temp and utilisation
Hi Chris
Thanks for this....just a shame I don't currently run any Linux machines as I'd love to try it out (or give it a "bash"
).
I'm sure other members might be able to benefit from this

Tim

Re: New Project kryptosathome
Hi Hmm - can't create account on the site, account creation disabled via BOINC Manager! Mike Hi Mike I went to the website to register an account first, and once that was set up - I added the project to BOINC Manager and then all was well and tasks downloaded. I had to complete some tasks before I ...

Hi all
It looks like this project is back up and running again (as of about 10 days ago).
If you want to add it to BOINC Manager, then here's the "Add URL" code:
It's a CPU based project, so no current tasks that use GPUs.

Re: Waste Not, Want Not
Same here, my first computer was a SInclair/Science of Cambridge Mk14, then a ZX80, my fingers couldn't take the pain of either so I got a Ohio Superboard II (6502 based) which is still working and highly modified. Then I moved on to a 8" floppy disc Z80 CP/M terminal based system which was bodged ...

Re: Waste Not, Want Not
Hi wbiz Welcome to UBT :-) As far as using a Raspberry Pi for BOINC goes, Mark has pretty much summed it up. I've had an original Model B since it first came out and I had a play with it, but it's basic processor could not really crunch much on BOINC - it was just a little too under powered to make ...

Re: CPDN
Hi Chris I don't think there's any special "extra" downloads required (such as V. Studio, which some projects need) in order for your Windows host(s)* to get crunching...though I do seem to recall that CPDN allowed you to choose specific sub-project tasks...but I just logged in and I can't see that ...

Hi Seems like ODLK is back but has lost a lot of credits! Mike HI Mike I guess they must have had an issue, lost some recent data and restored from a prior backup? Hi Nice to see a few more members contributing. <snip> Mike Hi Mike Yup - I'm in ;-) Don't know what you are finding, but some tasks are really short ( taking maybe 15 mins each) and which seem to be the "Main task" and get 24 credits each and others takes ages (taking between 6 and 12 hours each) ...

Rather similar to the copper bracelets that have been around for decades which claim to help with arthritis! About 100% placebo effect... They are not cheap and claim to "counteract the harmful energy emitted by wireless and electronic equipment" to aid sleep, cure headaches and give a clearer mind." Hi all Well, we really do seem to be still stuck in another "wave" of Covid infections....with UK deaths now surpassing the 80,000 mark, the 3rd lockdown is being ignored by quite a few people and the vaccines are stuck in the "batch testing phase" after being manufactured and prior to being sent ou...
