Re: ...and now 7 million on SETI !!

Hi all 4 hours on from the last posting and total now at 9,175,208 - so an increase of approx 72,000 or around 18,000 per hour. With possibly up to 32 hours to go, that's around 576,000 credits - and a total figure of approx 9.75m...Add some "pending" credits, currently about 3,000 tasks, this could...

Re: ...and now 7 million on SETI !!

Hi all My account is now at 9,103,549 credits and rising quite nicely. The lack of tasks over the weekend has rather impacted how confident I am of achieving the target 10m...but there's stil a day or so to go, plus the chance that some re-sends might be available even if "new" tasks are no longer a...

Re: Rosetta and CV19

There is a Covid-19 Rosetta BOINC challenge starting next week. https://www.boincstats.com/stats/challenge/team/chat/1074 Hi Chris UBT is "automatically" included on *all* BOINCstats challenges...so if anyone wants to get involved om this, your contribution will go towards the UBT efforts on this C...

Re: New Project (sort of): Science United

Still, at least DA has got a salary for the next three years. Mark Hi Mark I was thinking the same thing !! I wonder if he has any salaried "assistant" type posts available? as once this virus thing is sorted out - I wouldn't mind a 3 year posting to sunny California. regards Tim You're not ...

Re: New Project (sort of): Science United

Hi Mark TBH, I'd forgotten about that posting... :-( So, now it has actually started, one assumes that they will do some "proper" marketing and get a lot more poeple involved, rather than the "techy" types who I guess have mainly been deploying BOINC over the last 20 years. One does have some choice...

Re: ...and now 7 million on SETI !!

It's not looking good at the moment :( Hi Mark Indeed...a lack of tasks is seriously hampering progress...and there's not a lot I can do about it - it's weekend now so, unless SAH is running a script to make more tasks available, there's not much hope of getting to the target before the "official" ...

Re: Rosetta and CV19

Hi Mike Good spot !! What with Folding and Rosetta now working on various Covid-19 related tasks, it's good to see that "distributed computing" members are jumping onboard and helping out. Once SETI@home runs out of tasks (in the next few days) I'll swap over to Rosetta and hopefully make a crunchin...

Re: ...and now 7 million on SETI !!

Hi Damien It does tend to vary - at times there are very few and then a new batch of 40,000+ come through, which happened last night. But there does seem to be a high demand so they don't last long. I did increase the resource share to 500 and then to 1000 in the vain hope that it might increase the...

Re: ...and now 7 million on SETI !!

Now at 8.33m...and just 4½ days to go (and maybe one extra day to empty any buffers of SETI tasks). So, 6 hours later and now at 8.5m - an increase of 170,000 credits - that's about 28k per hour. If this keeps up, with 100 hours to go until midnight on the 31st, that's a possible 2.8m credits, plus...

New Project (sort of): Science United

Hi all So, UC Berkeley (home of SETI@home) has launched a new "project" with David Anderson in charge. https://scienceunited.org/ that enables you to crunch data across a range of subjects, such as: Astronomy, Bio/Medical, Maths...etc - basically all the categories that BOINC projects are currently ...

Re: How COOL is this?

HI Damien One thing it does rather show up is the limited number of hosts in the Southern hemisphere (excluding Australasia) that are returning tasks. Of course one can easily link this to poverty and the limited connectivity to the internet, in these regions. Which does rather show that launching a...

How COOL is this?

Hi all

Take just a few seconds to visit the SETI@home project here - it is visually quite stunning (IMHO):

https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/kiosk/

I never knew this was there !!!

Re: ...and now 7 million on SETI !!

Maybe SETI is lying to you .... Hi Mark Good point...although more likely is that whatever database gremlins have been affecting their "back office" system(s) which prevents one accessing some task data plus the ginormous number of "awaiting validation" tasks, is slowing things down a bit = b...

Re: ...and now 7 million on SETI !!

Hi all Now at 8.33m...and just 4½ days to go (and maybe one extra day to empty any buffers of SETI tasks). For some reason BOINCstats is way behind on listing the account total: https://classic.boincstats.com/en/stats/0/user/list/12/0/112288 which says I have 7,273,513 credits. It's times like this ...

I just wish I'd started crunching SETI that little bit earlier and I could have made it sooner :-(

oh well....

Re: SETI Sprint Challenge for Timbo 27th-31st March

Hey Tim, I'm happy to do something for you. I tend not to crunch 24/7 on my older GPUs and am not hugely attached to my existing GPU projects otherwise. I recall that there was some special SETI-optimised BOINC version as well?? That sounds a bit more complicated though. Hi Damien Thanks for the me...

SETI Sprint Challenge for Timbo 27th-31st March

Hi all This might sound a wee bit cheeky, but I thought I'd ask. SETI@home is going into hibernation on 31st March 2020 and I'd really like to get to the 10m mark and I'm at 8,002,620 already so I'm 2m shy of hitting this target...and in the time available, I cannot see me getting close using my own...

Re: Forum update and tweaks

Hi Chris Thanks for the tips. There are two issues anyways: 1) There is no subdirectory called "includes" under the php folder and hence I cannot find a "functions_messenger.php" file to actually edit. 2) The latest version of phpBB is v3.3.0 - and this is more "suitable" for use with php v7.x - and...

Re: Forum update and tweaks

https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2459371 Thanks Chris Will see about tweaking the php code when the forum gets a bit quiet (as I'll need to close it down to edit/update the php file). (I had found a couple of sources about the error but of course the "fixes" shown (elsewhere) did not...
