Re: Forum update and tweaks

i have to say i have never had that error ever Hi Neil Thanks for the feedback - which is very worthwhile. We've had one or two issues in the past with the forum - mostly the issues have been about access and sometimes there have been some problems when the forum software was upgraded... But finger...

Re: Forum update and tweaks

Hi all It looks like the forum database is being affected by too many spider-bots crawling all over it (which is a good thing as it's a sign of it's popularity !) - however the downside is when "real" users want to access it and the error "Too many connections" is displayed. So, I've disabled all bu...

Re: NAS box for storing CD and DVDs

Hi Mike Thanks for the input. Handbrake is video conversion software that can be used to convert from one video format to another. I've used it in the past but it only works "on demand" - ie you have to load up the software, put in the disc and then instruct the software what you want to do with it ...

Hi Francis Very well done !! Hope you get a nice pressie to reward yourself with :-) Hitting those sorts of targets always gives me a sense of achievement - so it's good to see that you've got there even if it has taken a while. I've still got a few projects I need to work on to hit the half mill or...

Re: NAS box for storing CD and DVDs

Hi Chris Thanks for the suggestion...and those are fine for the newer films that are coming out (or have been made available online). However, I have a lot of concert DVDs (featuring bands I like) that are not available and I just want to put them on a NAS box so I can access whenever I want rather ...

NAS box for storing CD and DVDs

Hi all I'm just interested to know what sort of solutions people are using to "rip" their music and video (DVD) collections to a NAS box? Part One: I've been using VortexBox to rip CDs but have found that in quite a few cases, the titles of the tracks and even the name of the artist and the album ha...

Re: Got my first UOTD!

I'm shown as joining Seti in 2003, which I guess would be the first project many of us participated in. Hi Jeff Similar story for me, though I did start crunching the original (non-BOINC) SETI@home screensaver, back in summer 1999 - that was in the days of dial-up !! Each task was about 350kb in si...

Re: Automating bunker filling

Hi Mark re: DOS version As I recall, one can also pass a "project URL" into the batch file using the "%1" parameter So: SET PROJECT=https://rake.boincfast.ru/rakesearch/ becomes SET PROJECT=%1 and then you can start the batch file with: bunker https://rake.boincfast.ru/rakesearch/ So, this means you...

Re: UBT now UK #1 for T.Brada

Hi Mark Excellent news and thanks for the heads up. :-) I've crunched some tasks for this, but not that many, mainly due to Sprints and other project targets. But having the #1 UK Team placing is worthwhile, even though I suspect this project is quite far down most peoples list of "most do" projects...

Terminator has sent us many invitations in the past, both directly through thi...

Hi all

I've entered the Team for this Challenge, so all you need do is to crunch some WCG tasks during the dates specified and your credits will be included in the team total.

Oh, very well done that man.

Always nice to receive badges from the projects and a Gold badge must mean something better than a plastic or cardboard badge ;-)

Re: UBT into the top twenty in the world!

I still don't understand how it can give so much higher scores than other projects. HI Damien As far as I know, each project decides how many credits they want to offer, which could be based on BOINC's own CreditNew function. Or it could offer some other basis for awarding credits, which is what Bi...

Re: £90 DELL PowerEdge R620 (dual Xeon V1 barebones 1U server)

Looks good Chris, good find :handgestures-thumbupleft: I could do with a replacement motherboard for one of my Natex motherboards that's getting a bit temperamental. I'd already have the CPUs and RAM, just a little dubious about the heatsinks as they appear to be propriety so I couldn't remove them...
