Re: Time for some new hardware

The article says it was done because most games could not handle 8+ cores so they needed a way to constrain the CPU, without just turning off HT. eg 8 cores, 16 threads, rather than 16 cores, 16 threads. I don't know if you have seen the way Thread Ripper CPUs are installed, its completely different...

Its set to Creative mode by default and I have no plans to change anything. Thanks for the heads up though.

Re: Leaving UBT for WCG

I don't think there are many people who crunch for BOINC who are not trying to help.

Competition is a human trait and especially such when you reward people with credits, and then display these within a list, as well as have people in teams.

Re: Leaving UBT for WCG

Thanks Tim, To be honest the reason I have been able to spend sooo much money on new hardware is because a relative of mine died of Cancer and left me some money, and hence it is important that I (now) crunch projects that help towards curing these fatal illnesses such as World Community Grid. I hav...

Leaving UBT for WCG

Seeing as there is practically no support for WCG in UBT I have decided to now join another team for this project.

At this time I have no plans to move to another team for the other projects.

Re: Millionaires League

Hi Mark,

I'm not sure either; i think the solution(s) you mentioned would probably be the best way to go. I think whichever route you take, there will be pro's and con's.

Personally I am happy with the existing table as it shows me pretty much what I was interested in seeing.

Re: Millionaires League

Its actually quite a difficult problem not only for the frequency issue you mentioned of the lower scored number of projects over the higher ones, but also if you compare GPU projects to CPU based one. Should 100 million on Collatz be equally weighted to say 100 million on WorldCommunityGrid, when t...

Oh not as simple as I first thought then.. It was just an idea, nothing that important really.

Re: Millionaires League

Sorry to hear that Mike, must be soo frustrating. Good work Mark.. Yeah I guess that makes sense about retired projects. Now we just need some total indicator so we can quickly see how well one is doing.. Perhaps: 1 point for 1 million, 10 points for 10 million 100 points for 100 million 250 points ...

Re: Millionaires League

I think adding two extra groups, one at 250 million and one at 500 million would be pretty useful, as its a pretty long/impossible jump from 100 million to 1 billion! I think that would make it far more exclusive, as I guess would if retired projects were removed

Intel Core i7-8700K overclocked to 7.4GHz

The unlocked Intel Core i7 8700K Coffee Lake-S processor used by Dancop operates out of the box at 3.7GHz base / 4.7GHz boost frequencies, but is of course designed to be easy to overclock as signified by the 'K' suffix. The overclock achieved was 7,344.53MHz (recorded by HWBot as +98.50 per cent)....

Re: Advertising on UBT forum

Personally I would show the ads to everyone, but just place it somewhere out the way, such as the bottom of the page (footer). If you use Google AdWords PPC you can earn over £1 per ad click! I have used Adworlds across many sites over the last 10 years and have made a decent amount, basically for n...

Re: Current Problem with Collatz [info]

HI Mark, What will happen is the host will still be allocated GRC due to RAC/MAG, however their account has now been frozen and no GRC will be issued to that wallet; indeed I am sure reverse transaction analysis is being done on that wallet address right now to try and find out who owns it. Addition...

I wouldn't worry too much as GRCPool admin is already on the case.

Re: Current Problem with Collatz [info]

I totally agree. In the above case, the host was a GRCPool member - however their account has now been blocked and none of the GRC will be issued to them. So they have not only wasted everyone else's time, but also their own. Like you mentioned, this kind of issue is pretty easy to spot so I am not ...
